t2dav 17 Posted January 15, 2013 I recently just had my first appointment with the WLS center and they did my BMI 41.5. I was told insurance required 6m supervision of a diet plan but that my BMI had to stay above a 40. Now how can I be on a diet and not lose weight?! Did anyone else have this problem? I really want to get the band but I'm afraid if I stick to working out I will lose below a 40.
cassieb 7 Posted January 15, 2013 I had the same requirement but the BMI could go down after my intial appoinment. They want you healthy and learning your new way of eating before you have this done. I think the 6 months of preperation was great. I really learned alot. Take in all the advice you can get from you Dr's and support groups. I just got banded on Jan. 4th. Good luck to you Cassie 1 t2dav reacted to this
t2dav 17 Posted January 15, 2013 Thanks Cassie. So did you lose weight? Did your bmi go below 40? Thanks for the encouragement. I really want to succeed and everything I have read your more successful if you do lose weight and diet before.
bar2373 138 Posted January 15, 2013 I had to do 6 months of diet for insurance too. They did not go on my BMI after dieting, but I only lost 7 lbs in the 6 months. I get banded on the 17th and have lost 9.5 lbs on the pre-op diet. I am down 34 lbs from my heaviest. Good Luck, keep us informed 2 cassieb and t2dav reacted to this
