Off my diabetic medication :)

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days post op and because of the size of the tablet and the low calorie diet the surgeon advised me to hold off on taking my meds and to see my doctor. Well I've been monitoring my blood sugar and nothing higher than 5.1mmol so looks like until further notice I'm off my diabetes meds and on the road to possibly reversing it! Anyone else with diabetes type 2 having the same result?

Yes...totally reversed...was taking daily injections, and Dr. kept trying different oral meds, nothing was working.....

Now it is reversed, no more meds...

You will find this is very common since Type 2 Myelitis and Body Fat % go hand in hand.....and you will find by many people here on this website who have had the same type of success because of the weight loss...

I'm sure many will chime in.

I was thrilled when I was able to go off my meds. Not only for diebeties but also, blood pressure and high cholesterol. Yes, I had it all. It was the best dr. appt. ever! Congrats to you, and so soon into your journey. Keep up the good work!

That's excellent to hear B-52. Was wondering if you still have diabetes but its controlled or are you no longer diabetic?

Once a Diabetic always a Diabetic.....but totally non existent due to weight (fat) loss, good food choices, and exercise......in other words...Lapband!

I too have decreased my meds by half. I didn't have diabetes, but metabolic syndrome and was taking 2000mg Metformin daily, along with Crestor 5 mg, and a whole host of other meds. I am only taking 500 mg of Metformin by mouth and waiting for a new script for liquid metformin. I won't know aobut how long I should have to be on meds until new labs are done.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
