I'm only 10 days post op, but I don't think peoples gas lasted that long. I saw my Dr last week and asked him about it. He said part of it was because I also had my hiatal hernia fixed at the same time I got banded. He said the stitches for the hernia were in the muscle that is connected to the shoulder. I was wondering if anybody had a hiatal hernia fixed at the same time.

I actually DID have a hiatial hernia fixed as well. Interesting....that makes sense...kinda wondering why my surgeon never told me that....

Omg....how often do you have it?! My surgeon told me it will go away, and it's part of the healing process....he said it's reffered pain from my stomach...i really can't handle this!

Hmmm, on average maybe 2-5 times a week. Sometimes it's minor, sometimes I just can't stand it. I do the heat pad too, and I cook healthy all the time. I'm thinking some foods just make the gas worse, if that's what it is.

The first few days it hurt all the time. Now it just hurts when I eat or drink something, that's why I don't just think it is gas

For sure it's not just gas.....my surgeon verified it's pain coming from my actual stomach, but it's reffered pain, so you end up feeling it in your shoulder...what a bummer! Idk what to do! I haven't had a fill yet, but I'm terrified the fill will make it worse...is that true?

I had my surgery on Friday and I still have really bad gas pain in my shoulder. Right now this is the worst part. I was just wondering how long it will last?

I had the shoulder gas pains from previous surgery when I had my son so I almost expected it. I had my surgery on January 14th. I believe it's the worst part of the pain u experience. I have been using a pain patch and rub by Tiger Baum which has helped. Does anyone know why I would gain 8# back after lossing 12# pre-surgery. Ive obeyed all the rules--how can I gain weight on Clear liquids ONLY?

I hope it dosent hurt worse. My Dr doesn't put in empty bands, so I actually already have 2 cc in, so I can't imagine it would hurt worse when I do get a fill.

The pain was so bad in my shoulder I went to the Er. It was so bad I was dry heaving and crying. Had 3 kids no crying! They gave me stronger meds. I have arthritis in both shoulders so the gas pain was extreme. My surgery was January 14 and I am feeling better. Had a cortisone shot in my shoulder today .i think we have all earned some major weight loss just for surviving.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
