I had my surgery on Friday and I still have really bad gas pain in my shoulder. Right now this is the worst part. I was just wondering how long it will last?

Probably a few more days. Walk as much as possible, windmill your arms, and apply heating pad. It's a b***h, but it does go away.. Congrats on your surgery!.g

Child that was the worst. I think for me it was about a week. It was torture girl! But it will pass just hang in there and give it time. That to shall pass. Good luck with your journey. It will get better. Sometimes it almost brought me to tears. I used a heating pad sometimes and I started walking a little the second day cause I really wanted it gone. lol

Congrats on your surgery. Yes, the shoulder pain is bad. That was when I went back on pain meds. But as previously said, walk as much as possible it is a gas deposit from your surgery. Also, try some gas-x strips. They worked wonders for me! Best wishes! Karen

It's unanimous! That was the worst part. Mine last nearly 2 weeks! I am over a year out and was still getting random shoulder pains, so I looked further into it. There is a nerve that runs through your abdomen up into your left shoulder. It can be damaged during surgery, or after, depending on where your port is and how you lose weight. It is nothing major, but you could continue to have that shoulder pain on and off through the years. Coincidentally enough, I seem to have it if I over eat. =/

I still get shoulder pain on the left often when I eat. I am four years banded. I think its gas my nurse says its a sign to stop eating. Not right after surgery that is natural.

Yeah go away sounds good. It feels like its in my muscles which really confuse me. I am pretty sure it is gas. Best medicine gas x and get up and move around.

I have been using the heating pad, taking gas-x, and walking..so I will keep on doing what I've been doing and hopefully it will start to get better.

Gas X really helped, also while sitting I rocked alot. I am lucky my lazyboy recliner has a vibrater and that really helped while sleeping, it seemed to work the gas out. I slept well.

Had my kids and husband burp me like a kid. Massage and relief in one. Walk with your hands over your head. Do not drink through straws. And papaya enzymes help.

I'm 2 years post banding and still get the shoulder pain. I'm so sick of it :/ I'm going in to talk to the doctor about it at the end of the month.

Omg....how often do you have it?! My surgeon told me it will go away, and it's part of the healing process....he said it's reffered pain from my stomach...i really can't handle this!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
