My decision on lap band was for a few reasons . It is less invasive. I feel it is better to lose the weight more gradually. recovery time s faster. Less complications. It is reversible. With lap band all you have to take is a good multi Vitamin.< /p>

like the other poster, did not want my insides (changed from what they were) that being said, my dr advised me no matter what WLS i choose, it would not be an easy fix/cure all and that i would have to change my eating, my moving, and my mental to make this work...so far so good.

why did you get the band rhonda?

Ditto the others. My absolute biggest concerns were the malabsorption and too rapid weight loss with the other surgeries. I prefer to get my nutrients from food and lose at a slower pace.

I have many friend who did the gastric bypass. While most all have been very successful, they all have had some form of issues (nutrient loss, become lactose intollerant, ect). While gastric prevents you from absorbing fat calories, at the same time it prevents you from absorbing vital nutrients from your food. I did not want that.

Another reason was recovery time. I hate being down and out, even though I am a recovering obese person, I've never been lazy. I like to go, I like to garden, I like to work on my house, basically I can't sit still. If the sun is up I gotta be movin'. Plus I couldn't afford to take 6 weeks off work.

Another reason is I am chicken. I don't like surgery, I want the help WLS would give me, but I didn't want a lot of playing around with my inerds. With the band it's there it will help me help myself and if there is a problem it can be removed with the other WLS it is the way it is after surgery.

Each person has to make the decision that best fits themself and their family situation. Then what ever you decide you have to commit to it in order to be successful.

My reasons woe i had alot going on in the last year health wise and i had a friend that had got the bypass. She was encouraging and a motivation to me but i really didnt want my body togo thru the horrific transformation of rerouting and cutting. Kudos to her she went from 250to 130 really quick but the outcome idk. I choose the lb because i knew besides my health i needed to eat right and make better choices. I tried wo it and still ended up at hooters all you can STAY. LOL

Sounds like a good decision Ms Rhonda. I think the behavior change is a huge part of it. I have seen several people with bypass relapse seriously and now where do they go from here? I did not want the permanent change to my inards!

I chose the Band for the same reasons, less evaisive, can be adjusted or removed if other problems happen, also more Dr. care afterwards.

The support groups at my hospital almost all had bipass and were telling me I will wish I has that later. Thank Goodness for this site, I can see how the banded really are. Also talking to someone who was successful with the band really kept me from switching.

I chose lapband because I didnt want my insides all cut up and rerouted. I was also scared that I would lose a bunch of weight and put it back on and have nothing to fall back on. I liked the idea that the band is with me for life and can be adjusted all through my life. It's a tool that's always there for me, holding me accountable and working with me for lifetime health.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
