Slight discomfort when eating one week after fill...

Recommended Posts

I have had a rocky road since being banded 12/21/11. My Dr. thought I had a leak because 5cc's went missing and I never had restriction for long. Recently they put in 2 1/2 cc's and I had to go back for an unfill because I couldn't keep anything down. I went for some tests, no leak was found had another fill of about 2 cc's and now I think I should have 7 to 8 cc's in my band again. I am keeping food down and liquids, have had some minor trouble with Water, don't know why, all other liquid goes down fine. I do have a slight discomfort as the food goes down and a few times the burps after I eat or drink. I have never even felt the band working before so I am not sure if this is normal. I don't want to get an unfill because it feels like the first time the band is actually working. I have no hunger between meals and can only eat a cup or so of food. The discomfort is bearable. Can I just be swollen? Does anyone else feel any discomfort as the food goes down shortly after a fill?

You could be sore from the fill. Did you do liquids after the fill? Did you have one episode in particular that might have caused irritation. Take it slow, but if it does not ease up in a day or two I would call the doctor. This is not a race and you do not want to harm your band by overfilling.

How recently was your fill? It would be more than a week ago I would speak to the doctor. Being to be too tight can lead to a slip.

Edith what are your doctor's instructions for post fill eating? At this point you should be back eating solids. If you can't eat solid then you are too tight. Even the first day after a fill my doctor says full liquid not Clear Liquids. Please remember being too tight is not good for you you are more likely to gain weight than to lose weight when you were too tight.

My fill was on the 8th. I am still having some discomfort but most of my food and liquid is staying down. I go back in February so I am going to stick it out and see if it gets any better.

If you can't est 3 oz solid Protein you are too tight. Being to tight is 1. Bad for the band may slip and 2. Leads to eating sliders which can lead to weight gain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
