Recommended Posts

I am searching for a Doctor. I will be a self-pay. Does anyone know the cost. Live in Tampa Florida. Will travel if I need to for a good doctor and affordable procedure.

I was self pay, but I do not recommend traveling too far. It is best to have a doctor who has a full support team, nutritionist, psychologist, nurse practitioners, support groups, seminars, etc. They will then be with you throughout your journey. I think there are some other Tampa Girls around so they will have ideas for you. My net out of pocket was around $12,000. Tell the doctor you will be be self pay right up front. Many can operate in an surgical center which is cheaper than the hospital. I was out patient. Also, be sure to ask what the fees include regarding followup visits and fills and unfills. It turns out in my case insurance would not pay for the surgery, but does pay for fills. They also paid for many of the pre-surgical tests as well. Most doctors are willing to work with you and some have financing. Good luck choosing a doctor and a practice that will work for you. I will say that the band is the best thing I ever did for myself, and I do not regret a penny of what it cost me. If I may ask, why are you self pay?

Hi

I used dr Aquila in Tampa. He is amazing. Very much a straight shooter and very strict. If you are interested in his contact info or more details let me know.

I had my surgery at memorial hospital. It was a flat fee of 10k... 5k down and balance no interest for 2 yrs. after second payment hospital offered to cut bill by 50% if I paid it off so ended up costing about 7300.

Wow, I was self pay in 2006 and mine was $17,500....I'm from Wi and I can only assume the procedure must be getting less expensive as it becomes more popular!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
