fixing pouch stretching

Recommended Posts

I'm 100% sure i stretched my pouch and I just really don't have the money for a few months to see my doc.. n if read how a lot of them empty u band for 4 weeks and stay on liquid and than get refilled.. well I can't do that for a few months so can anyone recommend what I can try n do with still being filled? Should I do liquids for a week or the 5 day test

You may not have actually stretched your pouch but your band may have lost Fluid. i am also not a doctor but you may want to try the 5-day pouch test and go back to basics. The only thing I caution you about is, if you really have stretched your pouch than you are at risk for your band to slip and this can be very dangerous. After the pouch test, you have to start measuring your food again and only take in a cup of food at a time, if you are hungry sooner than 3 hours you need a fill and need to follow up with your physician.

My last fill was about 8months ago and they filled me to right about 9.5cc in a 10cc and I'll admit I got off track n overate a lot so that's another one of my concerns

Happens to me all the time.....but you need to know your band intimately to tell the difference....but I won't get into that now....

I go full liquids 2-3 days to give the band, actually the pouch a rest....shakes, Soups, etc, anything but solid hard foods......the pouch will stretch and contract normally just as the rest of the stomach does.....

2-3 days is usually all it takes for routine maintenance......sometimes a little as 24 hours can make a difference....

If I tell my Dr., he will tell me to do the same thing.....if that does not work, or if I cannot follow his directions, he would give a un fill allowing food to pass more freely, again giving the pouch a rest. Fortunately I have never had that happen to me.....

This is also the reason for the "5 day Pouch Test" gets everything back to normal.

Works form me.....try it..what do you have to loose, and only experience to gain.....

I have not had a fill in about 20 months, but I do all liquids about once a month.....BUT you have to have good restriction to begin with, know what it feels like and what to expect, to be able to return to that stage.....

If someone is still in the adjustment phase, then it could mean another fill is needed.....

I've just done five days liquids for the first time in seven years, I've always considered this five day pouch test a fad and nothing more. I just did liquids, not the actual program.

I plan on keeping on going for a few more days ( goal is ten) as I'm finding it easy and I'm sure it's helping me immensely. I'm satisfied on half a cup of thick Soup for maybe three hours.

I ave had such trouble with my band since I unfilled for cancer treatment two years ago. I remained unfilled for six months and when I refilled I just never got comfortable restriction. A barium swallow showed my band was tight with ever so slight dilation of the pouch. Doc was happy to leave it.

But my tummy has gotten more and more unhappy and my eating habits slacker and slacker, and it was time to do something, so I did. And it really feels like my band of old and has been a huge wake up call. I too plan to make this a monthly tune up.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
