Anyone try not weighing themselves?

Recommended Posts

I started working with an Eating Disorder therapist very shortly after my surgery. She suggested I not weigh myself because the number really determined my mood for the day. I got rid of the stupid scale. I don't need it to tell me if I'm doing what Im supposed to. It has really made my life easier cause I'm not so tied to the number. I weight at my follow up appts only. I have lost 31 lbs since my surgery in October, so I'm happy. Still learning healthy eating patterns and how to deal with my emotions without stuffing them down with food.< /p>

Personally, Christmastime around relatives was VERY tough emotionally and I treated that stress with emotion. But - I didn't have the added stress of the scale, which usually makes me spiral ("well, I gained a pound - might as well eat whatever I want"). I think that helped limit the stress.

Do what works for you. Don't weigh for a month and see if your day-to-day life is easier. It's not a permanent decision. If you don't like it, start weighing again.

Either way, just take care of yourself. That's the bottom line and my goal.

So, yesterday, I thought, "Oh just get on the scale. It won't hurt and you'll get an idea of how you're doing." stepped on the scale and nothing happened--my husband had taken out the battery to use in something else! Message received and heard! Haha! :).

I'm weighing myself weekly and love seeing the results! Daily was too discouraging because of how I fluctuate. Now I look forward to Tuesdays! ;)

Depends. Right now I weigh myself every morning. From times past, I know that as this new life style becomes less novel I will switch to twice a week. During longer plateaus I will give the scale to my wife and tell her to only give it to me once a week. When I plateau, the number never changing starts to frustrate me, and then I start to wonder why I am doing this when I am showing no results. so it is banished.

So, the answer is "It depends", the scale is a tool, when it stops being a useful tool I don't use it for a while.

I weigh in every morning first thing, feed the cats & get weighed.lol

I don't let the numbers bother me one way or the other.

I'm like the rest of the daily weighers, every time I didn't weigh, I had gained a lot of weight. I guess it is a head game and maybe I'll get over it or maybe not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
