Getting through a stall

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

I'm getting discouraged and need some help/advice. I'm 14 weeks post op and I've stayed the same weight for almost a month. I can't seem to get below 266. I'm getting in at least 60 grams of Protein and 7 cups of Water a day, and I'm working out 5 days a week. I got my first fill and started a Zumba class this week and nothing, no change at all!

The first two weeks I was ok with not losing but now it's starting to make me mad. How can I get past this stall?

I'm eating between 900-1200 calories a day and burn between 250-700 depending on the day with exercise.

You're doing everything right. I know it sucks but the plateau WILL pass. You're burning a lot more calories than you consume so eventually your body will have no choice but to start dumping off the pounds again.

There's a bunch of little tricks people do to try to get over stalls. Some will try to shock their metabolism with going from super low calorie to higher than usual. If they usually do low carb, they start eating carbs for a week. Personally, when I hit a stall, I carb cycle to get out of it.

But regardless of whatever little tricks people try to pull on their metabolism, the bottom line is the stall will pass regardless.

Hang in there, you're doing great :)

I have heard of carb cycling and I will look into it more, thanks!

It's frustrating' date=' I know. I've hit numerous stalls over the last year and every time I want to scream and throw my scale into the lake out of pure frustration.

Do you track your calories? If so, about how much are you eating a day?[/quote']

This made me laugh because I felt the same way last week when my scale didn't move a notch .... Lol

That's great you started zumba. Give the excersise a chance to work it's "magic". Working out is a huge piece of the puzzle. I wonder if uping your calories may help. It seems counterintuitive but if you don't eat enough you slow down your metabolism. I eat between 1200 and 1400 a day. Make sure you are only eating "healthy carbs", that is, whole grains, fruit, starchy veggies. Good luck!

I am 2 weeks ahead of you (just about 16 weeks out from surgery) and have hit my first stall. The scale hasn't moved in close to 2 weeks! I am starting to drive myself crazy with the frustration! However, I have come to realize the weight didn't pile on overnight, so it will not come off overnight. (I am grasping for any reason to not throw the scale in the lake!!) this weekend I really amped up the workouts, changing things up a bit, and am trying the carb cycling! Hang in there, hopefully the scale will show results for both of us soon!

I am 11 months out and have this happen a lot! I stay the same for several weeks, lose a few pounds, then nothing. I comes off, just slower than I want it to.

It is so frustrating, even hearing others in same boat just doesn't stop that frustration. First thing on my mind when I wake up is. 'I wonder if the scales will move'. I'm 200.2lb lost 42 since surgery in September. I cannot get in the 100's I was on 1000 calories a day and have upped it to 1200 but so far it's not made a difference and even though I am good at Portion Control the extra 200 make me feel piggish :0(.

I know I have to and will stick in there but it is sooooo annoying.

If any of you guys use MfP I'd live you to add me

Xxx good luck xx

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
