OMG I'm Sick Before Surgery!

Recommended Posts

....my surgery is scheduled for Friday,January 18 and I've got sore throat, painful and productive coughs, and possibly a fever (will check when I get home from work tonight).

I'm fairly certain that if my surgery get pushed back I am going to kill my husband, who so lovingly shared his germs with me! Okay, not kill, but I will be quite disappointed :-(

If this thing doesn't blow over by Monday I will be calling my surgeon to see what to do! Everyone be careful and make your sick friends and family go away if you are nearing your surgery date!!! Lol

Thanks ladies. As a hospital employee, I have had my flu shot, but they aren't always effective. I'm hoping this all goes away quickly!

I've been worried b/c reports coming out that they might be cancelling some procedures b/c of flu epidemic.

I have a procedure coming up on Jan 23, yikes!!!

I was sick a week before surgery and called my surgeon. I got an antibiotic 5 days presurgery and had a slight cough the day of, but since they give you IV antibiotics I was 100% the day after surgery, just made sure to do extra breathing exercises to make sure it didn't come back. Don't lose hope!

I had a bad respiratory infection before surgery and we just pushed it out a month. Call your Dr. you might go on an antibiotic or just wait a bit. Good luck to you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
