I have a question. I see s lot of you talking about eating a cup of food per meal. My surgeon doesn't tell me that. He tells me to eat three meals a day with no Snacks in between. He also says to have no liquids with your meal, no liquids as your meal, and no liquids with calories between meals. Doe this sound like most of you do?

Wow. Usually it's small portions, up to 6x a day, but very low cal, high Protein Snacks, like fat free Greek yogurt , etc.

I was eating three meals a day but as I lost more weight and then my weight lost stalled the nutritionist had me start doing 3 meals plus two Snacks. I also drink crystal light but not during meals I stop 30 minutes before and nothing to drink until 30 minutes afterwards

I was told the same as dwarren30 (the 2 Snacks were advised by my NUT from the start) and with a 1 cup limit.

Unfortunately you'll find every surgeon and every nutritionist have their own ideas what works. The one constant fact among the majority of them (but not all) is the 1 cup of food per meal rule. The reason for this has nothing to do with calories but rather to not stretch the pouch above the band.

My nutritionist says 1 cup of food per meal, stay within my daily calorie range, but if I need a snack between meals that's fine so long as I stay within my calories.

Yes it sounds pretty normal. My dr is adamant about no liquid calories or drinking with meals. He is ok with a snack or two as long as I can afford the calories....

And while my dr never told me a cup of food he said if I eat the portions he suggests which is 3 oz meat/protien, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 c starch it adds up to about a cup....

Every doctor is different. I see a dietitian also and she tells me what to eat. I was told no liquids for 30 minutes before and 30 after eating. I sometimes do have a small drink if needed. I have Protein Shakes for Breakfast every morning and have been doing that since March and was banded in July.

I have about 1000/1200 calories a day with about 100 mg of Protein. I would call your dietitian for some advice if you don't like what the doctor said. Also, do you go to support meetings? I go once a month and they are super and very helpful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
