Hello everyone. As of right now Im not banned, but wanted to get more info and also waiting on the insurance to approve. I am looking for support from others in my area. I have my boyfriend and mom that are my rocks and know I'm interested in the surgery but I'm kinda scared to tell anyone else. I don't want them to judge me and try to talk me out of it. I want to be healthier and happier. Is there anyone out there that can help me become more informed so when I do decide to tell others I can give them all the facts?

well you found a great site. Any doubts I have had about this being the right decision for me are gone. Also any ideas that this would be an easy fix are gone as well. You don't get the bad and automatically lose weight you gotta work your program. Make the changes you need to make and Know it is not for a while it is for life. From what I have read here and elsewhere I believe 80-90% of lap band failures are due to noncompliance.

Welcome to the forum. You have come to a great place to learn, be inspired a get support. I encourage you to learn all you can before being banded , you'll have a greater chance in succeeding. There are also some great books on LBS.

As far as telling others, you might want to only tell the ppl who you know will stand behind you and support you. You don't want a bunch of ppl watching you and judging every morsel you put in your mouth. As time goes by and they notice you're losing, then tell them how you're doing it. Thats just my opinion.

Congrats on taking the first step. Being banded isn't the easy way out and you will no doubt hear that it is from a lot of uninformed people. I say ignore that type of information.

When banded You must follow lots of rules with regard to eating, Portion Control and food selection if you want to be successfull however it can offer a long term solution if you work with our band instead of fighting it. Best wishes as you make your decisions.

So when I go to the doctor, he/she will give me a pre op and post op diet plan to follow? And I'd like to talk to someone in person and how they overcame the huge change. Any one from the Houston, Tx area? I know it isn't a quick fix and it is a huge lifestyle change for me.

One thing you will learn from here is every Dr is different. Different pre op diet ( I had none) and different post op diet (I had full liquids for 30days). Some ppl have 2 wks of liquid pre op diet, some ppl get to eat within their first week of being banded. Some get fills at surgery, some 10 days out, me 6 wks out.

That's why you'll read ppl saying "follow your Dr's plan".

It will be interesting to see what your Dr has planned for you.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
