New Here! Hoping to get the lap band! Process?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I just decided with the help of my drs that I need to consider weight loss surgery so I chose the lap band. I need to loose 125lbs if not a little more.

Diets never work I did weight watchers a bunch of times it's getting old and depressing!

What is the process after you go to your seminar? I go next thursday! How many months till actual surgery?

I'm nervous but ready to loose this weight for good! Make lifestyles changes and keep it off!

There is no standard for the questions you ask? Your insurance will determine what you do next and how long it will take. Also, your doctor has a say in when you have surgery.

If you go to a seminar and I suggest more than one, settle on one doc and then schedule an appointment. But first, make sure your insurance covers bariatric surgery?

Like 2muchfun said, it all depends on your insurance and surgeon. I attended a seminar in October and am currently half way through a 6 month supervised diet required by my insurance. Hoping I will be approved and have surgery early this summer.

Have you called your insurance company and inquired if they cover wls and what their requirements are?

First I made sure wls was covered by my insurance then after I attended the seminar I was contacted by the weightloss surgery center that put on the seminar and they told me exactly what my insurance required me to do, they kept in contact with me throughout my 6 month diet and made sure I got my testing done when it was time....7 months later I was banded! Best of luck to you :)

Yes, it depends on how you're planning to finance this.

If it's gonna be insurance then your doctor's office will be able to tell you the protocols/requirements. Sometimes insurance's want you to follow a 6 month supervised diet.

So the faster you get started with the process the better

I have contacted my insurance and the bariatric center at our local hospital has only 3 dr's to pick from so hopefully that's the easy part!

I will need a 3 month weight loss program daily food journal and monthly weigh in

Evaluation from a mental health group

sleep apnea study

Doesn't sound hard the gentleman said it could be by April if things go well. My insurance says I'm a good candidate since my bmi is 44.4 and I have back issues and knee issues I'm young and need to get healthy for my family!

Being 29 and can't play on the playground with your kids is hard :(

That's great news!! It won't be too long before you will be chasing your kids at the playground :)

Good luck!! I'm about two months away from my surgery! I could've had a lot more progress by now, but I didn't get the ball rolling soon enough! Don't miss any of the three weigh ins or you'll have to start all over... see if you can schedule your tests and psych evaluation during those three months that way when your three months is up you'll be set!! Best of luck!!

You're on your way, congratulations!

Please stick around here reading and posting. You will learn more here about the band than any meetings they make you sit through. You might want to check out a Lap Band book too.

Lots of knowledge, support & inspiration here to help you on your way.

Best Wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
