Here's my intro post if you care to know more:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=15766

Recieved a call from my wife this afternoon telling me that I had recieved a letter from my insurance company (United HealthCare) that I was approved. :clap2:

Dr.Carter will be performing my surgery in Arlington,TX on May 14th. I can't believe how quickly and smoothly this process has gone so far. I was worried that I was going to have to endure a very long process, but fortunately everything went great. From the time I attended Dr.Carter's seminar March 8th, it took just one month for me to get approved, and now another month till I am scheduled to go under "the knife". Thanks to this board for all the invaluable information. Appreciate it. :D

Quick question, as of now my doctor has not mentioned a pre-op diet, as a matter of fact he said during his seminar that he did not require a pre-op "liquid diet". Is this unusual? Why would some Dr's require the diet and others not? Would it be harmful for me to do the pre-op liquid diet even though my Dr doesn't require it? Thanks!

Congrats Kenny!! Glad to hear you're on your way!!

I don't think it could hurt you to do a pre-op diet if your doc doesn't require it. Most require it because it shrinks the liver, making it easier to lift out of the way for the surgery. So you'd just be doing him a favor! :D Our pre-op wasn't all liquid... it was a modified Atkins (low carb AND low fat, ugh).

Good luck & keep us updated! :D

Kenny, I know your excitement and can relate to it well! I went to my first seminar in March, and after careful consideration, made an appointment. I saw Dr Keilin and Dr Hekier and my insurance coverage was fantastic. These two doctors are a husband/wife team that do super jobs here in Texarkana, TX. I went in yesterday morning, May 3, and got banded. I had lost 13.4 pounds through the pre-op phase, and I am finding out what it is all about nowl I am a little sore today, but I think it is because I probably pushed myself. I picked some blackberries that involved some bending and stooping this morning (I live out in the country and I walked along the road and picked them) and have been somewhat sore since. I was told to be active and do as much walking as I could to help relieve the gas that is used during the surgery. Other than that, things are going great. I am so anxious for my first weigh-in in a couple of weeks. I hope things will go well for you. I will be checking to see if you give an update later. Hang in there! Judy Ann

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
