Need to get back in the swing of things

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to this board trying to figure out how it all works. Had surgery June 1, 2010. I've lost 80 pounds as of January 2011. Felt great still do, but not satisfied. At the same time I lost the weight,my knee started bothering me. When I needed to start working out, I couldn't. Went to orthopedists April 2011. Says I need a partial knee replacement. Lovely time for arthritis to show up. I have energy motivation, but too much pain. I'm hoping if I just cut back again losing more weight will ease the pain in my knee. I'm not ready for knee surgery. Just looking for suggestions and ideas of things I could try. I wouldn't trade having my band, just wish my 44 year old knee didn't hurt.

what a great weight LOSS, you go girl.

my knees hurt really bad also (and even worse about 7 months ago). with that being said, the dr and my nutritionist said that since i cant (really burn off that many cals because of my knees and girth size) i needed to be more aware of the calorie intake. so i take in less than i can burn off to counter...i know 3500 cals is a pound if i drink or eat it...so i make sure i dont take in more.....and i walk as best i can...i love my band..i hate my left knee but i deal with it.....i hope you have a great year ahead :)

ps, the more weight i have lost, my knee does not hurt (as bad) and i am able to walk better/farther..

knee problems are almost as bad as back problems. I have arthritis in both my my knees with my left being the most troublesome of the two. Both feel great since losing the weight and I usually have more better days then bad.

Have you been keeping up your Doc visits with your band? How much saline do you have in the band now? Just curious is all. Finding the green zone will make a big difference and if you're making good food choices I would think the weight would still come off slowly.

I see you lost 80lbs which is awesome by the way. What is your goal weight?

I have knee issues as well. lost 50lbs on my own and got stuck. Knee issues started this year and waiting to have surgery. Just looking forward to the weight loss. By the way, what about all the extra skin? My godson who's a trainer said it can be toned just concerned

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
