the beginning...

I was just banded 4 days ago and I am already craving crappy greasy food. Does anyone else ever feel in the beginning like they regret their decision to get the band? I'm miserable and want food that I know is bad for me. What do I do?

Unfortunately the band doesn't help with cravings! I think the more good stuff you start putting into your body the less you crave the bad! Don't feel like you can never have these foods again! Once in a while you can have a few nibbles and you will be surprised that your satisfied. I didn't have the greasy food cravings, but I had the sweets craving that I cured with sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles, and sugar free hot chocolate. Don't be discouraged, you need to get your focus off food! Stay busy with your hands and mind! You made the decision for a reason, have faith in the journey! Good luck and keep us posted!

You're still in the healing phase, not the weightloss phase, so don't worry too much. You should still be on liquids, however, so the greasy food is really a no-go. I was on full liquids for 4 weeks. At 3 weeks, I cheated and started mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs. I could have bought stock in KFC for the potatoes! The first 4 mths I ate exactly the same as I had previously. I could still eat a large Quiznos sandwich and a bowl of broccoli cheese Soup. Until my 3rd fill. Thats when the magic happened. I started eating a toddlers portion. I could eat about 1/3 of a Quiznos SMALL sandwich and a few bites of Soup. Now I'm at 3 yrs and have lost about 100 lbs. But in the beginning, I thought I had made a huge mistake and thought I had failed yet another diet.

You're just a baby in this journey. You're going to have fills/unfills, eat MUCH, MUCH less and LOSE WEIGHT. I promise you, if you stick with it and have patience, you will have success. The people that don't have success either give up too soon or don't follow any of the rules.

Good luck!

These next few months are going to be hard, youll crave all the wrong foods, you'll mourn food and/or the amounts you used to eat. I also remember craving greasy food about four or five weeks after being banded and I did take a bit but it tasted nothing like I remembered like it tasted and it was like I could feel it running through my body and made me feel awful and lethargic. It's going to take a lot of willpower but if you persist it gets easier and the rewards are so worth it.

I found that when I craved things I had to stay away from or when the hunger hit hard I distracted myself by keeping extra busy or leaving the house and going for a walk and by the time I got back the cravings and hunger passed.

I have also noticed since not eating any more rubbish my skin has improved a lot, it's a lot softer so that's another bonus for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
