Recommended Posts

Has anyone that's had the lapband had a beer or two after your recovery period ?? I know they say that you can't have combination but just wondering if you can stray on this or not ..?? Thanks for your input

yep! I tend to not want them. I used to drink several. Now, a couple. I'm not advocating you do this, but i like wine or non carbonated drinks better now. I have a glass almost every day.

You should ask your medical team this question. There have been significant medical risks associated with carbonated beverages and bands.

Like you already know because you stated it above, most Dr's will tell you NO carbonation. MOST, not all. While I certainly suggest you follow your own Dr's rules/suggestions, you asked the question and YES is my answer, LOL. The band police on here won't agree, and thats ok. I've had the band a little over three years. Sep 09. Love it, and I follow the rules about 80% of the time.

I'm right there with ya! I was banded in Oct of 2009 and have lost about 100 lbs. While I eat MUCH less, eat slower, and eat healthier than previously, I'm not perfect. I have a couple sips of my husbands soda about once a week and I drink a beer about twice a week. Causes no discomfort at all. I eat bread, Pasta, and rice too. Almost everyday, actually. I find that I can eat 1 pc of bread, very slowly and it goes down just fine. Now, you may not want to listen to me as I have a band slip currently. It slipped about 9 mths ago, was unfilled, filled and it's still slipped. I gained about 20 lbs. I'm now back to the basics and trying to lose that 20 lbs + the 9 I had left to lose. I no longer vomit (up to 10x a week previously, mainly cuz I ate too fast), I'm trying really hard to cut back on the carbonation and sugar. I've lost about 4 lbs so far. Yes, my band is still slipped, but I have no symptoms anymore (which is why my dr doesn't want to do anything about it). It's actually been working better since the holidays (as I could eat and eat and eat after 6 pm before, not anymore tho).

Ask your dr. Some will say occasionally is fine, some will say ABSOLUTELY NO CARBONATION. You don't want to damage your band by doing something detrimental.

Good luckl!

Marci

The only beer I can tolerate is Guinness and than I can only tolerate one that takes me about 2 hours to drink. I did not try a beer until after I was over a year post op, yes I know we are not to have carbonation or empty calories but this is life and I do enjoy a drink. I do also have wine and an occasional martini, but I also counted every single calorie I drank.

This is my life with lap band and I am not perfect but it is my life and I have chosen to find a way to live with lap band. Is drinking on a regular basis good for weight loss the answer would be no with or without lap band. Alcohol is empty calories and no i am not the lapband police just my personal opnion.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
