No fill-Never felt restriction

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op from my surgery and have yet to get any fills. I see my Dr. next Tuesday for a postop visit and we are going to talk whether or not I need a fill at that time. Everyone, including my doctor, asks me if I have felt restriction yet. I do not believe I have. I am a strict rule follower and have been following my diet set up by my nutritionist (1000-1200 cals per day, 60 g protein). Will I know when I feel restriction? I have no clue what to be expecting. I am assuming my band is working since I am continuing to take 1-3 pounds off a week and I am rarely hungry. Thanks for any thoughts/help.

Congratulations you are doing really well.

Sounds like you are in control of what you are eating, rarely feel hungry and are losing steadily. I wouldn't be surprised if your dr says you don't need a fill at this stage.

If you start to get hungry in less than three to four hours after a meal could mean you need a fill.

Feeling satisfied on smaller portions - you don't need a fill.

good luck.

Jen - I'm a rule follower too and honestly I'm going to so everything I can to avoid a fill. I am hitting the high protein/low carb road and have already lost 1 lb in two days. I haven't had any issues with any of the foods I've eaten but I haven't gotten past 3/4 cup 3 times per day. I don't know what restriction feels like but I do know that I'm just not very hungry. I portion out my food on a small salad plate or saucer and it seems to be the perfect amount to tide me over until the next meal. I asked my doc if I was losing weight could I refuse a fill and they said absolutely. I think there are several others here who were very successful with an empty band as well. It's what works for you and you are doing awesome!

Thanks so much everyone for the replies. Makes me feel better. I am loving my lapband and have been so excited for my results. Hopefully the pounds just keep coming off. I have a new sundress, 2 sizes smaller than what I wear, hanging in my closet waiting to be worn this summer. :) :)

you are doing absolutely fantastic...you are def using your want power and mind over matter......you seem to be doing what i am doing (eating as though we have full restriction). proud of you. you are making it work and its happening.

I was totally in the same boat as you. I ended up not getting a fill at 6 wks. I am about 10 wks out and think I need a fill now because I could eat a lot if I allowed myself too. But everyone is different and it sounds like you are doing awesome! Keep up the good work!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
