gunther01 0 Posted May 6, 2006 I chose a doctor in Tijuana for many reasons. one being that i live in arizona and it is only 1 hour flight to San Diego and then a quick drive across the border. I did not want to fly into mexico. too time consuming. Less hassle to fly to california. The driver picks you up and your in and out that same day. I went to Dr. HUACUZ because his price and his credentials, also i spoke to the nutritionist DR.ROMERO on the phone and i was convinced of his expertise. I am in the medical field and i was impressed that he was so knowledgable on syndrome X. I also negotiated a bit on the price. you can do that in mexico. I have heard good things about dr.kuri. i dont know the prices. they seem to be lower all the time. i think you can call and talk to the doctors. see how you feel. thats what i did. i think dr huacuz and his staff are very genuine and compassionate. i never felt uncomfortable with anyone or with my surgery. i never had any vomiting or pain after the surgery. i had my band put in the 11/14/2005 and i have had 2 fills. so far i have lost 40 lbs. that is great for me. some lose slower and some faster . i will have dr. huacuz do a Tummy Tuck if i need it. but that is a long way away. i still have 60 lbs to go. good luck. hmwlg100 0 Posted May 7, 2006 Hi I am new to this site and have been researching Mexico docs and have come up with the Obesity Control Clinic with Dr. Juan A. Lopez Corvala. Has anyone heard of him and or used him. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Eric
Ms. Butterfly 0 Posted May 7, 2006 any info out there about Dr. Ortiz in TJ Mexico?
lightnerbride 0 Posted May 8, 2006 I was happily banded at Bajanor in TJ. I was a complicated case due to having 4 previous abdonimal surgeries and this was a rebanding. I chose Banajor in part for the price but I was very happy with the qualification of the doctors. It was a small clinic but I feel I got more than what I paid for and would recommend to anyone. I agree that cost can be a big factor and shouldn't be taken lightly. There are some great surgeons in smaller clinics, doing a great job, for a great price but do double check qualifications, at least be in contact with 1 person banded there, and ask lots of questions. If you go to Banajor Dr. Carlos can tell you I emailed him at least 100 times with every question possible. April

Alicia the Lap 0 Posted May 17, 2006 Hello, Why do you get your bands from Mexico? I assume it is cheaper. What is the price difference btwn the US and Mexico? Does private health insurance not cover for most of the cost? I am just curious as we dont have the option in Australia - we pay $3000 with insurance or $11,000 without (aussie dollars) cheers Alicia
DesertDiva 0 Posted May 17, 2006 Hi Alicia, In the US band surgery can run from $15,000 to $20,000 depending on the doctor. Fills can also run from $100 to $200 each adjustment. In Mexico the fees are from $8,500 to $12,000 with some doctors offering free fills for life, BUT you would have to pay your own way to get there and pay for the x-ray room in the hospital when they do the fill. NurseMichelle 0 Posted May 17, 2006 I had my surgery with Dr. Rumbaut. I was very pleased with him and his staff. The hospital was awesome. The nurses did not speak English. I tried to use a translation sheet I was given. But they ignored me from 1 am to 445 am. I was in horrible pain, and called them 4 times and they wouldn't give me pain meds. I was so so mad. Then magically at 445 they brought me meds. When I told the Dr. he was so mad. He almost cried with me. Study the improtant words before you go. Like Pain, Gas, need medicine!!!! Please! Tamyrn 0 Posted May 17, 2006 Michelle, I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience in Mx. My experience with Dr. Del La Garza and the Oca Hospital was lovely, each shift had at least one English speaking nurse and that nurse took the 3 lap band patients. My surgeon and my anesthesiologist came by at least twice daily, my pain meds and those of the other 2 lap band patients were given routinely. I requested something to help me sleep because I'd been asleep most of the day, my anesthesiologist ordered it and I was given a sleeping pill at 10pm...slept like a baby. lightnerbride 0 Posted May 19, 2006 The band is a lot less for most of us, who's insurance does not cover anything bariatric,in Mexico. I would have to pay about $12,800 here without insurance and instead paid $6,900 in Mexico plus airfare (every penny made a difference for me.)
