Grocery savings?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what you saved on your groceries after being banded. I don't eat out too much, so I wouldn't really save much from that, but am wondering how much my grocery bill would decrease.....

Honestly, my grocery bill increased. It's a lot more expensive to buy chicken breasts and fresh veggies than it is Little Debbies and Easy Mac. It's unfortunate but healthy food is more expensive, which is exactly why people in poverty are far more likely to be obese than someone wealthy.

Sorry Missy but I have to disagree with you. Fresh produce and meat is cheaper than prepackaged foods.

My food bill went down cause I wasn't buying as much food.

I guess it depends on each individual.

I agree, it may seem more expensive to eat healthier but if you calculate it longer term, you'll realize it's much less because you're eating less food. My grocery bill went down tremendously because I'm not filling my cart with chips, soda, Cookies etc. now it's chicken, Beans, veggies...but they create about 12 meals. And my takeout budget? Woa! I've never saved so much in my life. We're talking $150 a week I would spend eating out. Now it's maybe $30.

I have to agree with Missy. Mine has gone up. I never was a person who stocked up on crap (I have never kept chips and little debbie in the house). I ate a lot of frozen meals that were loaded with calories and sodium. Now I cook using fresh meats and fresh veggies. Plus grocery prices have gone up since I was banded so where yogurt use to be 50 cent a cup down the yogurt I buy is a buck a cup. How banding effects your food budget is hard to figure out when food prices have gone up and I live in a city where prices were already high enough.

I have to say my bill went up, only b/c my husband eats a lot of junk food and I have to cook seperate meals for he and myself.

Junk food + healthy = $$$$

If only he would eat healthy!

mine def went (down).

we ate out alot (easy/cheap foods/drive thru's)

alot of beer and the junk food per day....added up to alot..

if you shop wisely (at walmart/trader joes/sams club) as we do i buy bulk items (chicken breast, 96% lean beef) and divide it up and its a money saver.....my freezer is filled with singles of chicken/beef ready to grab and go...i buy from the farmers market(everyweekend)fresh/veggies/fruits.....

*oh, let me add this: just because (something is listed, healthy, organic, all natural, grain fed etc) doesnt mean its better for you just because it costs more....processed is processed....just my opinion.

Yes, and NO!!! We definitely do not buy near as much as we used to......but we waste more than we eat....

It's hard to cook traditional recipes that can feed 4 people, when you're only going to eat less than 1/2 of what one person would normally eat.....

It is still a learning game....sometimes it is easier to eat out, or order take out, and just have Soup and a appetizer.....

My food bill is a bit higher, not by much but it is because lets face the facts and its is, fresh/organic 'healthy' foods/vegtables, included LEAN cut meats are MORE expensive.

Maybe its regional, where you live. I live NJ/NY and everything here is super expensive.

Oh, not to mention the supplements I need to take to keep me healthier, such as Protein shakes/drinks, Biotin so all my hair don't fall out, Calcium for my bones, mult-Vitamins because lets face the facts you are not getting your 'daily' required nutrients in. (as required by my doctor to take all of these). Or maybe its because I am just old, LOL

My bill is lower, because i don't buy highly processed junk food any more. My net food bills are down as well since I am eating healthier food at home, no take out pizza, etc.

I do that too CG,I buy bulk meats like chicken breast cutlets and slice them super thin and individually wrap them. Its just me and the hubby, but its super quick to grab one out of the freezer if he or I wanted to cook the chicken. And they take long to defrost either :)

Well I used to get a med coffee at Dunkin a Breakfast sand which, and an oatmeal cookie for breakfast. I know I know. That used to cost me 6 bucks plus a day. My yogurt with Protein Powder, nuts and Cereal is maybe $2.00-2.5. I don't cook but for $5.50 I get a roasted chicken at costco that makes my lunch for a whole week.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
