Protein Shake Reccomendations

Recommended Posts

I've been using Protein Shakes for years, but I'd love your recommendations! What are you all using and enjoying or used and enjoyed? I just bought the EAS one tonight in French vanilla and strawberry cream.

I just drank my first Premier Protein one. the nutritionist gave me one to try before I purchase them. I'm very pleased that it actually tastes good! So I think I'll be purchasing a case of them before I head home later today.

She stressed to me that I will need a protien shake daily for the rest of my life. The ready made ones are sort of pricey, so I think I'll try the powder too. Does anyone have suggestions on how to make the powder mix well? The nutritionist said that it can be gritty sometimes.

I recently found Slim Fast High Protein shakes. 20g of Protein, 2 g of carbs and 180 calories. My biggest problem with shakes were the calorie counts seemed high, but this one taste really good and is reasonalbe for a meal.

I drink it every morning for breafast.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I I'd like the eas carb control one. My doctor said no more than 110 calories, 3 grams of fat max, and 4 carbs max so that fits perfectly. I tried the strawberry cream one and it tasted like strawberry milk! It wasn't cold so I got a slight aftertaste but it was ok.

I surprised by this. My doctor doesn't want me drinking cals. He feels you should get Protein from solid food.

My doctor doesn't want me drinking calories either, but he makes a specific exception for Protein shakes (I asked: but...aren't Protein Shakes liquid calories?). His thinking is that the benefit of ensuring that you have adequate protein each day, plus the difficulty of getting in enough protein via solids only, outweighs the negative of the calories in the shake.

His recommendation is to choose a shake that has at least 20 g of protein and at most 200 calories in an 8 oz. serving.

I use the EAS Carb AdvantEDGE shakes (110 cal. in an 11 oz. serving), as well as the GNC Lean 25 shakes. These have 25 g of protein and 200 calories per two scoops, which makes 8 oz. normally, but I Water it down to 12 oz. since I like my shakes a little thinner.

Pure Protein has really good chocolate shakes and I like the GNC Total Lean Vanilla Bean.

you can order the Premier Protein on Amazon too but the shipping is a lot. if you have a costco nearby, I am sure they have them in store. http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Protein-High-Shake-Chocolate/dp/B00796NFHS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357784146&sr=8-1&keywords=premier+protein+shake

They also sell premier at Sams. I have no trouble getting Protein from solid foods. My doctor says if you can't you are too tight.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
