I came to a Notre Dame football party and all the food looked sooo good! I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm in the last leg of my mushies. I had a small serving of avocado and was happy with that alone..... Then I wanted to try a hot wing very badly. I took 1 good bite chewed it up, sucked out all the flavor and then spit it into my napkin. It was a weak moment but I stopped myself by not swallowing. I've done so good, I've lost 24 lbs since my surgery and 43 lbs since I started this journey. Is it bad to chew up and spit out?

It is called maladaptive eating... won't hurt you once, but definitely not anything you want to make a habit of!!

Adrianna - I did the same thing on Christmas Eve when I was 4 data post op. my family was eating smoked BBQ ribs and a smoked BBQ brisket. It smelled good and I wondered if it tasted good - it was a mail order gift from my brother. I took one small piece of meat, sucked all the flavor out of it and spit. It was tasty...that's all I wanted to know and I haven't done it since.

I bet we all have done it... But it's not healthy to make a steady diet out of it. I did it with steak once... Just to taste a piece of juicy rare ribeye before I cut off the fat... I chewed it until the flavor was gone... Then I gave it to the dog. We all have our weak moments.

I have heard of people chewing on chocolate and then spitting it out so they can get the enjoyment without the calories. Personally I wouldn't do this because I don't have the self control to chew and then spit out (and its kinda gross!)

But I guess if you have to, and have the self control, then its alright

But as Toddy pointed out, don't make this a habit

Thanks everyone for sharing your chew and spit experiences. I feel better knowing I'm not in the boat alone.

your never alone

we've been there/done that and sometimes still there.

i say if you want something eat it (after your post op healing is completed). we are not on a diet so no need to deprive ourselves.

i never liked wings (as i cant picture their little arms a flapping)... LOL

Dana - I absolutely live wings. First thing I had when I started soft foods? chicken breast tenderloin dipped in wing sauce! That did the trick.

I agree chewing and spitting out is maladaptive behavior, if done on a regular basis. I guess once in a while, when you feel you really need to taste something it's not a big deal. However, just not something I've ever had a desire to do. I go all the way and swallow lol. Keep up the great work on the weight loss. You are doing awsome!

I had been craving them too. I told my husband that I was going to get chicken breast an pour buffalo sauce and dip my pieces in ranch. That should satisfy me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
