tawilson73 0 Posted January 7, 2013 Does anyone know about the process for BCBS of NC or BCBS of Michigan. I am covered on both. I am new to this. I just made my seminar appointment. I have been overweight my whole life however I do not go the the Dr. often. I would say I am probably around 90 to 100 pounds overweight. Will not having a lot of medical information keep me from getting approval? Thanks!
♥LovetheNewMe♥ 1,216 Posted January 7, 2013 I live in SC but my BCBS is of NC go figure. My insurance did require documenation of failed weight loss. I had to have my PCP write a letter to say why she believed the surgery would help me. I do have underlying issues, asthma, hypertension, joint issues, sleep apnea. Or did have I should say, surgery corrected all but the hypertension but improved it. I would call your benefit case manaer with BC or the surgeons office should know. My surgeons office did all of my paper work and told me what all they needed me to do. Good luck with the process!
apeters 1 Posted January 7, 2013 I had BCBS of MI and they had similar requirements. Letter from my general doctor, evidence of failed weight loss attempt, diet under dr supervision, BMI of 40, etc. The program at Sparrow Hospital helped me document all of this and I think that's fairly common. Easiest thing is to call the number on the back of the card. They were easy to work with, good luck!
