Banded on 4/5/06, there was a few side steps after surgery. I received staples, and they are still in, they are not coming out until the 13. But between coughing and laughing, my staples are popping out!!!! And for some strange reason, all the carbonized gas started to nester right underneath the damn things. So it’s like having a balloon under my shirt in one area. Just got out of the hospital yesterday, so now I am able to freely move around. Even walking around the house, stretching, walking on the treadmill for a few, the pocket of gas is hovering under the staples…no poof poof! :) I would love some helpful hints of how to get rid of this gas, before my staples pop out on their own, I already lost one today, and the other ones are loose, I can wiggle them! Also, did anyone lose their sense of taste or smell? I can’t smell anything and my drinks taste different.

I too had staples. Mine were covered with this clear "tape" stuff, and bubbles started to form, lifting the tape up. Took me a while to figure out what was causing that!

Unless your wounds are gaping, I wouldn't worry about the staples. This was m first time with them, and like I said - I had this tape stuff holding them in place, but I asked around - with a LOT of people - and it doesn't seem unusual to lose staples. Heck, I asked my mother and she had staples after her hysterectomy and "lost" about 11 of them. "They were there when I went to bed, gone when I woke up, but not inthe bed or on the floor!"

However, if your incisions don't look like they're closing, def. call your surgeon.

Didn't lose any of my senses...

Take Phayme gas tablets. Dont worry they are really small and you dont have restriction right now for them to get stuck.

You should contact your doctor. I think you should probably have sterile dressing covering your staples, particularly if the wound is open enough for gas to pass through. JMO. I do know that the wider the gap becomes the bigger the scar will be left after you heal up.

Thank you for the information:) ! My staples are going to come out tomorrow, mean while I can hang my laundry from them! LOL I’m thinking, what the hell did I do this for, I feel fatter than ever, my bra’s don’t even fit! Even my time in the hospital, I did not lose a pound! I will try the gas pill, I actually went to the Macy’s 3 hour sale, I thought walking around would help, but now the gas is stuck in my side! However, I got some great buys on some pillows and towels, it was worth the trip! P.S. I'll let you know if I blow my self away(by gas):guess ... no poof, poof!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
