You definitely don't want to especially while you are still healing. However, I have more than a few times over the past months and my dr. has not been concerned. I was scared after it happened the first time (happened after getting my first fill). My doctor didn't get worried about it. If you were to get the flu or something though, to where you may be repeatedly I would definitely call your dr. as they can prescribe an anti-nausea medicine. If you are concerned, I would call you doctor's office and maybe talk to the nurse to hear what they say.

Your band will not slip if you vomit! I have vomited with my band and It did not slip but if you eat appropriately and chew you should have little vomiting. I now it is very scarey. I was scared to death the first time I had a vomiting episode. I got a GI bug after being banded and I was scared to death, I did not think I would be able to vomit but soon found I could. So just relax and if you are nauseated ask your physician for some medication for nausea, I took medication for the first few months until I was able to start eating more regular again. I had a lot of nausea in the beginning.

Now if you would have repeated vomiting episodes there could be a risk of your band slipping but band slipping usually happens more due to overeating, stuffing your self and stretching your pouch.

This is my opinion only and the best advise and comments should come from your physician. I am just speaking from my experieince.

When I was in the hospital nurse told me to sniff rubbing alcohol and put an ice cold cloth on my chest and that helped.

I've thrown up twice since being banded on oct 25. 1 time when I decided I would be fine eating Chinese food. Well I wasn't. One bite and it was stuck. First came the productive burp, then my mouth started to Water bad. I was over the sink, and once my mouth started to water my stomach started to feel like I had the flu and the heaving started. It was only a few heavs though. I was freaked too though my band would slip. But the doc said only someone who vomits all the Time for days is at risk. The second time I threw up was a few days ago. Sometimes I forget I have the band. I walked into the pantry and saw the fig newtons, they hadn't been open so I was like hey why not get one. I ate it but didn't chew like I do when I am conscious of my eating, a few seconds later I was ready to do my wii fit and I took a drink of water, well the water didn't stay down it came back up instantly, good thing I had a cup near me lol. Then i was over the sink mouth watering like I had a faucet in my mouth. And I was heaving. It was way worse then the first time. Sometime it just happens. You aren't paying attention of eating consciously. Just try to be aware at all times lol. But now and then it won't hurt your band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
