Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days post op and following my liquid diet....no cheats. But im burping a lot and it hurts. Is this normal?......ive been reading here more about "regular gas", but is burping something that can disturb the placement of my band???

I have also ONLY lost 2 pounds!!! Uggggggh! I need a breakthrough, ...some motivation! This is hard!

I am not aware that burping can hurt the band. It's actually beneficial early to help with the gas release.

You are in the healing stage and your Body is recovering from surgery so a small or no loss the first week or so isn't unusual. Hang in there and follow your drs instruction regard liquids and mushies. The weight will come off.

I burped like it was my job for about the first 3 months........still am a pretty good burper..........it never hurt me, but probably good to get the gas out.

Burping will help relieve the gas, and is perfectly normal. By the way, 2 pounds in 5 days is terrific. What did you expect? At that rate you would lose 146 pounds in a year. We did not obese overnight and we cannot expect anything to reverse it overnight! Keep the faith!

Be glad you can burp! I am two weeks out and has only burped twice. I seem to have lost my ability to do it which I read some others have had an issue with too. I get the urge to burp but it just sits in my chest. Fortunately it manages to find its way out the other end which is better than nothing I suppose. :-)

I wish I could have burped after my surgery. I constantly felt like I needed to but took a lot of moving my body around to get it out. Be thankful you can.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
