Ohhh, the PAIN!

Recommended Posts

I am post-op two days now and the Loretab the Dr. sent me home with doesn't seem to be helping. I have been doing the walking and breathing exercises like I was directed. Seems to be a pain that rests right at the bottom of my diaphram and moves to my port site. Any suggestions? Anybody "Been there, done that?"

i had basically the same pain. i am now 3 1/2 weeks out and pretty much painless. the doc told me that it was a combination of my stomach being swelled and the muscle they used to sew my port to. it will pass. just take it easy. but dont forget to walk. lol

Thank you Ethansgrandma. I am dealing a little better with the pain. I have a great support network here with my wife. I started feeling flush and when she took my temp I was 100.9. I took the Lortab and was feeling better the next time she checked me. Good to talk to you and thanks for the support. I can't wait to say I am 3 1/2 weeks post-op Flashover

If it moves, sounds like it could be gas, esp. if you're ony 2 days post-op. I didn't have any gas after my surgery, but have empathized with several who have.

If you're still having pain, try this: stand next to your bed, bend forward from your waist and rest your forearms on the bed with your forehead between them. If it's more comfortable, bend your knees as well. It looks crazy, but that was the best position for gas pain relief for me. I was banded in Mexico and met several other bandsters who had surgery the same day as me. They tried this pose and it helped relieve their gas pain too, so hopefully you'll get some relief with it as well.

Good luck on your weight loss journey and welcome to LBT where everyone is your friend.

Molly- Good to make the journey with you through this forum. I am doing a little better today. I made it a total of 1/2 mile today (several trips). I slept for 2 hours today for a nap. My chin is up Molly! Keep yours up too! Flash

Hi DonnaB- Thank you for your helpful information. It feels like I am going to rip out my stitches when I bend over the bed though. I will keep working at it though. Thanks again. Flash

Yep, I had all that Gas, all that rip & burn feeling in my port area, soreness in my tummy. Everyday it gets a little bit better, by two weeks you should be feeling almost normal. Hang in there!

flash, I e-mailed you. I thought you were a girl but above you mention a wife...you could still be a girl, I guess? but I'm thinking you are a guy. Are you a girl or a boy? LOL

And I think the Maalox Max is good advice, or just Milk of Magnesia. Either, but Maalox Max has the acid-reducer with...hadn't heard of it but it sounds like it might help.

Walk walk walk. Make sure your sips are small. Let the Fluid trickle down slowly and easily.

Good luck!

If it isn't gas... (I HOPE it's gas)

Get help for even stupid stuff. Want up from a chair, get a hand. Need out of bed? Holler for help. Walking was easy for me, but all the abdominal muscles were shredded until week 2.

DO NOT BEND. This is a one way ticket to Painsville, population: you.

I was sent home today after appendix removal and they gave me lortab. I was told if the pain is from 1-5 on a scale of 10 take one tablet, if it is 6-10 take two tablets at a time. Now check with your doctor about this, but thought this info might help you.

My pain is much less today. Found out mine was doubled up. Started my period on the second day along with sore inner thighs. So from elbow to knee and everything in between hurt. Gotta love being a woman, lol. Still feel like i did way too many situps, but that is fading and what is most noticeable is the port pain. I am also finding it easier to sleep comfortably, thank goodness.

Hi Everyone. Thank you for the responses/suggestions. I am sleeping better but still have difficulty getting up/down from chairs and in/out of bed. I am walking more though. Got in 1 mile yesterday. Hope to get a little more today. I does help with the gas a little but the best thing I have found so far is the suggestion from DonnaB, about leaning over the side of the bed with arms on forehead. Helps almost every time. :uwelcome:

Keep it up. Good to hear from all of you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
