Ready to Schedule Surgery

Recommended Posts

I finally got my Authorization for surgery from my insurance company. I have been eating everything in sight because I feel like I won't be eating it again! :P I'm a little nervous about the pre op diet. What if I get hungry? Do I just have another Protein Shake?

I'm going to call the Doctor's office on Monday, and hopefully schedule the procedure for early February. I'm excited but very nervous! I wan't to be thin!

Any Advice or suggestions to help with the pre op and post op diet?

I'm not scheduled yet. As soon as my Protein Powder arrives and I try it out to make sure it doesn't upset my stomach (lactose intolerant & milk allergy) then I can call to schedule surgery. The powder stuff should get here early next week :)

Congratulations on your decision. IT is normal to be nervous so I am finding out. I get banded next week and I can't wait. I have become obssesed with LBT and I am here everyday now trying to obsorb as much info as I can. I don't want anything to take me by surprise.

Your pre-op may not be as bad as you think. Imagine it as a starting point for the rest of the new you. Make mind of matter. If you get hungry drink some Water or find something else to occupy your mind.

I look at as when I quit smoking. A craving would last maybe as long as 3 minutes and if I could get thru each 3 minute craving one at a time it was easy. I made it thru each one and it has been 4 years now. If I can do that I can do anything and so can you.

Good Luck :D

Rev up your want power and stop eating like you never will again. Most people with bands can eat everything they could before banding just in smaller quantities and slower more deliberate chewing. You will need to follow the orders of your doctor in order to succeed. This is not a diet, it is a lifestyle change. Pick a surgeon that has a strong support staff, NPs, Nutritionists, Pyschologists, and support groups. You will need them all on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
