abs6angels 36 Posted January 4, 2013 To those who made goal or are steady losing...how long before/after a meal do you drink and how much liquids are you getting in a day? Also, I'm hearing different things about drinking with meals...some surgeons say yes some no???
Sojourner 2,446 Posted January 4, 2013 It's always best to follow your surgeon's instructions about this topic. In the past there have been heated discussions about this topic, and instructions will vary widely by surgeon. I was advised to wait an entire hour post meal before I can have fluids, and absolutely NO drinking while eating meals, but again those were instructions from my surgeon, and I continue to follow them. I have found that if I am properly hydrated before a meal it is much easier to wait the hour after eating before drinking Water again. It's important to meet your Fluid intake goals daily for many reasons. I try to drink 80-90 oz of Water daily. I always have a bottle of water with me and I sip from it often. Best wishes... 4 ☠carolinagirl☠, ♕ajtexas♕, catfish87 and 1 other reacted to this
Summerrain 520 Posted January 5, 2013 As stated follow your docs instructions. Mine are I can drink with meals and have done so when I've needed to but follow the same rules with eating. Wait a min, sip, wait a min, eat. Also some that have been given the go ahead to drink with meals find they can't .
♕ajtexas♕ 3,771 Posted January 5, 2013 This subject is greatly debated here. Every doctor is different. My doctor allows drinking with meals (a sip 1 minute after swallowing a bit) and immediately after the meal. I drink at least 80 ozs of Water a day. I usually don't drink with my meal, I prefer not to and I usually wait about 15 to 30 minutes after the meal, again my preference. I always have a water bottle in my hand and I sometimes flavor my Water with crystal light when I get tired of plan water. This works for me. 1 Sojourner reacted to this

Rojasanoll 920 Posted January 5, 2013 I always have Water nearby (even while eating for emergency) but I try and wait 30-45 mninutes after eating. Then I drink some water/decaf coffee. I usually drink at least 16-20 ounces just prior to eating (or within 10 minutes of eating) to give me a fuller sensation so 1 cup is plenty of food for my meal. My doctor wants me around 64 ounces a day at minimum.
