Am I doing something wrong?

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to get some feedback on my progress.

I had a port revision on Oct 29. At the time of surgery There were 4CC put in my band. Since then I have had 3 fills. My last fill was Monday Jan 2 for a total of 6.5CC.

Prior to the last fill this past monday I have been at a plateu with my weight. The scale does not move below 243lbs. Obviously with this last fill it is to early to tell, but prior to this one I was having signs of some restrictions, still able to eat anything. I am just wondering if anyone has experience the same thing. I guess my question is why am I not loosing weight. I am tracking everything I am eating staying within about 1200 cals a day. Exercising 3-4 times a week and My weight is not budgeting.

To date I have lost about 15lbs.. When should I start seeing results??? I am really starting to get frustrated but trying to keep it positive. I am really hoping, this fill gives me what i need to get a push. I have a realize J&J band.

Any suggestions????

weight loss stalls happen to everyone. You will lose and then stop. Its normal.

Plateaus suck but they are a natural part of the weight loss process. If you're counting calories, measuring portions, and exercising the weight will eventually come off. It's really simple math- consuming less calories than you burn=weight loss.

I know it's hard but try to be patient. The plateau can't last forever and you will definitely lose more weight.

Best wishes.

If you're doing the same thing day after day, sometimes it's a good idea to change up your diet regimen since your body seems to be in a survival mode. Try going a week with 900 or so calories per day. Try something new like no/low carb for one week. Or cut out all processed foods for a week. Then fool your body by increasing calories to 1400 for a couple of days. Mix it up and you may see some new results? Remember Einstein's comment that insanity is doing the same thing day after day and expecting different results?

Also, I highly recommend you sit down with a nutritionist who is very familiar with lapband patients. I only lost 12 lbs my first 4 months and a visit with my nutritionist made all the difference.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I have another appointment scheduled for Jan 14 along with a nutrionist appointment. I am hoping that helps also.. I decided as of Jan 1 to stop eating carbs, try and see if that does anything to jump start my weight loss. Its been 4 days, I weighed in this morning and same weight. To be honest I haven't exercised this week, my husband was in a car accident (he's fine) so I am without a car. But i am heading to hot yoga tonight. I feel stressed.

Thank you for all the kinds words. I know the weight will come off.. it has to right?????

I planed on hitting my goal on my 30th birthday in July. I have 70lbs to go..

Given the math, it seems you have to be losing something. My guess is you're losing either fat or lean body mass but retaining Water to make up for it.

If you're eating high-sodium foods maybe cut that for a bit to see if the scale moves. Also, getting a body-ifat monitor might provide some interesting insight.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
