I pb a lot... almost every day... I think it is caused also by way too much stress and when I pms and when I get my period, I go on liquids cause I can't keep anything down, and I have trouble eating in the mornings.

I PB during TOM - from the first day to the last. Otherwise I'm fine, unless I get caught up in a lively dinner conversation and stop paying attention while I'm eating. Tomorrow I get my first fill and it's during TOM, so I'll be lucky to be able to breathe, let alone swallow.:faint:

I have pd'd twice since banding - 1st time after 1st fill - ate 4 puffed cheetos then tried 1 spoon of pudding - and again last night - awoke in the middle of the nite - decicded to take a couple of bites from leftover dinner (rice w/red sauce & beef) - well guess i didn't chew well enought and was eating too fast - after the 3 bite - OMG golf ball - slime -pd - more slime and then a little pb.

<SNIP>Unlike most have said here, for me the occurance of Slime and PB does not seem to be directly related to overeating, eating too fast, or eating too large of bites. My occurance seems to run in cycles. I will have days that even keeping Water down is a struggle and solid food is out of the question. The next day I can almost eat like a normal person. I will give the papaya enzyme a try to see if getting a blockage broken up will fix the problem. If that is true, then I might even have my port filled a little more.<SNIP><SNIP>

As some feedback on the use of the Papaya Enzyme, it seems to be helping me get "unblocked" but it takes an hour or so to be effective. I am now taking one pill in the mornings as a "premptive strike" against getting the slimes in the first place. Becasue of what it is, I can see no issue with taking it on a regular basis. It seem to help keep thing moving and prevent blockages in the first place. When I get blocked, I take one or two more and wait the hour until it clears. I feel the daily dose is necessary for my situation because without doing this, I have a difficult time even drinking enough water during the day to keep me hydrated.:spit::phanvan

If anyone sees any reason not to take one Papaya Enzyme in the morning on a regular basis, please let us know.

I have been banded 10 months. I never had a PB episode until about 2 months ago ...most of the time, is more the golf-ball with slime, and I get the "first bite syndrome" often.

I have only had PB 3 times:

- grilled salmon (too dry)

- raw sauerkraut (I don't know why)

- apple (chewing a big bite of it)

I'm no doctor, and I have not done an extensive study, but I will mention a couple thoughts on this Papaya Enzyme thing. I also take it sometimes and I have found it to be effective much of the time for getting things unstuck. But I do have a couple questions about taking it "pre-emptively." Papaya enzyme is actually the main ingredient in certain brands of meat tenderizer, so it seems like it could be tenderizing your innards a bit without doing much good. If there is nothing stuck, why take it? I think it works because it helps break down things that are stuck in the esophagus. But if there is nothing stuck, what is the benefit of taking it in advance? It almost seems like using a plunger in a toilet that is not stuck. If something is already through the band and in your stomach, your body's digestive juices can surely handle breaking down any food that's there. So, I'm a little unclear about the purpose of taking this pre-emptively.

Anyway, this is all just uneducated speculation. If anyone has any other information or point of view it may be more accurate.

I agree that I have tried this as a strike before attacked, it has never worked for me...but everyone is different!

The reason I am taking it is not to unstick a food blockage, but to get the thick mucus flowing out of my pouch/stomach into the intestines. I have mucus issues all the time, not just once in a while as most have reported. I have been taking the Papaya enzyme for a few weeks now and I cannot say that it really does much good. I will probably knock it off, not out of fear of it eating my stomach lining, but just because it does not seem to help.

Since your stomach is made to function in the presence of digestive Fluid (acid), I cannot see where the enzyme would do any harm. As a matter of fact, I am amazed that food PB'd does not have the acid burn in the mouth that a full on regurgitation produces. I am still looking for something that will reduce the slimes, other than spitting it up before or during the start of every meal. That was getting old many months ago. Any other suggestions?

I would consider a small defill if I was sliming before or during the start of every meal. Do you ever have heartburn or more slime when you are sleeping? Because that is what I was just told today at my fill to watch for as the sign of being over-filled.

I do not have heartburn or slime when I am asleep, so I do not think my port is overfilled. I do have some reflux while asleep but by taking Ranitidine, it is not too acidic. Where I have a real problem is if I get some of the reflux into my windpipe (Bronchial tubes). That wakes me up like RIGHT NOW! Anyone else have this problem?

I have found that when I take Ambien, a sleeping aide, I do not have nearly as many occurances of inhaling reflux than when I do without Ambien. It is not a "never" or "always" occurance, either with or without Ambien, but it follows enough times for me to make a definate connection.

My General Practioner (G.P.) doctor recommended that I ask my Bariatric doctor about taking the drug Reglan to help minimize the amount of slime I am currently dealing with. I haven't talked to my Bariatric doctor about it yet but I plan to on my next visit. Has anyone out there have any experience with its effectiveness? :)

I have had chronic heartburn a decade before surgery, so I take a Prilosec everyday. I wouldn't know if the band did anything to cause heartburn, cause I refuse to have heartburn

I think I am overfilled right now, and plan to ask for a teeny tiny defill when I go back on Oct. 22.

Be warned that when I asked my doctor to reduce my fill, he took WAY too much out (2.5cc to 1.5cc). I am now back up to 2.2cc and that is just about all I can stand. I am just recommending that you be prepared to justify a tiny defill if he/she tries to talk you into a larger one. Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
