day 2 of pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

I am also on day 2 of the diet & can't seem to quit thinking about food. I'm not starving, I think it's the whole I want what I can't have:( I know the end result will be worth it!

Good luck - the pre-op diet is the hardest part. It will get easier :)

Keep drinking your fluids. I drank over 64 ounces each day and it seemed to bloat me. I wasn't worried about gaining Water weight, just shrinking the liver for surgery.

Surgery on Monday, and the pre-op diet is nasty. I am not sure whether it is to shrink the liver, or prove that you have the will power to make the band work ;-)

That is what I have been doing. Usually I drink a lot of Water, but since starting the diet I have added crystal light to the water to appease my sweet tooth.

Hi guys Im on day one if the diet and I'm really hungry everything smells extra good today. lol

I'm on day one of the pre op diet too. I'm starving!!! I had my two Protein shakes and couldn't wait until dinner. I cooked two ounces of chicken, two ounces of steak and then put onions and green peppers with it....basically a fajita without the tortilla. I used a small plate too to feel better. This adjustment is hard for sure but god I can't wait to loose all these pounds!!!! Good luck with all the rest of you and please keep posting. :)

My day 1 pre op diet is coming to a close. I've been obsessed with food all day. Wanting thIngs I don't even really like just cause they show it on tv. Lol. Having family go out to dinner without me is rough. I have checked this website more twenty times today looking for encouraging words, it has helped huge. I keep saying to myself "it'll all be worth it" :)

I was on 4-6 Protein Shakes a day every day for 15 days. Don't over think it. Take it day by day and plow through it...you will make it. The food will still be there after surgery. You ladies can do it! As long as I didn't smell food I was fine. The smells really tested my will power but I made it 23lbs lighter by my surgery date and you will too...hang in there!

The first several days of the pre-op diet were hard for me also. I'm not going to lie - the first couple of days I probably had a couple extra ounces of Protein or more than 1 cup of vegetables, but I was still able to lose weight prior to surgery. I cleaned out my refrigerator so I really didn't have anything that I could go crazy with. Get yourself some no sugar added fruit bars (the little ones that have only 25 calories each), sugar free Jello and Crystal Light or make Kool-Aid with a no calorie sweetener. Try to keep yourself busy. The other thing I thought about was how much I weighed and how humiliating it was to say that number out loud. Once you get a few days in and see some weight loss, that will hopefully give you some motivation to stick it out. Don't forget, they will weigh you the day of surgery so they will know if you followed the pre-op instructions or not. It helps when you are held accountable to someone.

My recommendation would be if you need more food to eat more of what your doctor has prescribed. So I would have had another Protein shake instead of having the chicken and steak and vegetables. I recommend going on YouTube and. watching a video of an actual surgery so you can see how they're moving around your liver etc cetera I think it helps you understand why it's important to follow your doctor's orders. And no I'm not trying to be mean I'm just trying to let you know why they give you such specific requirements.

Well, if Saltlife is on the same pre-op diet I was on, the chicken, steak and vegetables are okay. Mine was two Protein Shakes per day plus one meal of 3 - 4 oz of Protein 1 cup of vegetables plus 1 cup of fruit. No breads, Pasta, rice or potatoes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
