Connie S. 0 Posted January 3, 2013 I had my surgery on October 9th and I didn't have any problems until I had my first fill. My food is getting stuck in my throat about 2 to 3 times during the week. I am looking for tips, recipes and ideas because it is not fun when the food gets stuck. Thank you for your time and I look foward to hearing from you. cheryl2586 3,053 Posted January 3, 2013 How much of a fill did you get. You are probably eating too fast or too much at one time. Time to slow down now and take smaller bits. After you start getting fills its time to learn to eat with your band and I think that is what is happening. 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and 2muchfun reacted to this
Kime-lou 648 Posted January 3, 2013 Cheryl is right, many times when we have these issues we are eating to fast and or taking to big of a bite. What my mom told me was eating isn't a race so slow down and enjoy it. My mom had to do this because of some GI issues. So take small bites, chew well, put your fork down between bites and see how that works. If you still find you are having issues getting food down call your doctor. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
2muchfun 8,927 Posted January 3, 2013 Allow me to pile on. One of the most difficult things for new bandsters to learn is how to eat like a bandster. Small bites, big chews and slowing down will take care of most stuck episodes. Choosing your food wisely will help too. But, I'm over a year out and I too get stuck 1-3 times a week. And yes, it's no fun. Most of my stuck episodes are a result of distraction. Eating while I'm watching TV or waiting till I'm so hungry I take 2-3 bites so quickly they plug up the pouch. Sitting down to a meal, paying attention to bite size and time spent chewing will eliminate most all stuck episodes. Now if I can only practice what I preach? Now, looking on the positive side. You obviously have restriction and once you learn how to eat the right way you could be in or very near the green zone? Congrats to you for achieving this milestone so quickly! tmf 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
Connie S. 0 Posted January 4, 2013 Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer me. My fill was 4 cc's. So far this has been the hardest learning how to slow down and chew really well. I know that I let myself get to hungry and then I eat to fast and my dietitien said I should eat by myself so that I am doing it right but that is hard when you have a 7 years old running around. I am thinking about planning my meals in advance so I don't get so hungry. Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you. Connie
