Frustration

Recommended Posts

I got banded May of 2012. I've lost about 30 lbs, which has been a little frustrating as I thought I would have list more at this point. I'm not sure if I should get another fill or not because I feel like I'm throwing up a lot as it is. However, there are times I feel like I'm able to eat more than I should (quantity wise).

I almost feel like if I can chew things up small enough to get past the band that I'm still able to eat a large quantity of food. I guess I thought the Lapband was supposed to create a smaller stomach (in a way) do that I wouldn't eat as much not just teach me to chew really well.

Having said that, I haven't had a fill since August because I've been losing about 3 lbs per month and feel like I throw up quite a bit.

Thanks in advance for your comments and advice.

Congrats on your 30lb weight loss! It sounds like you are losing 3-4lbs a month. It may be a bit slower than most but any progress is progress. Don't give up.

You are throwing up a lot... Have you talked to your doctor about this? What specific foods are you eating before you vomit? What time of day? Are you having warning signals beforehand (burping, hiccups, cramps, fullness)? Are you measuring your food, so as not to eat more than 1 cup in a sitting (even if you feel you could eat more)? I too have days where I feel like I could keep eating forever. Some days are pure willpower! The band doesn't really restrict the amount we can eat. It keeps us full for longer, and keeps us accountable though. How long do you feel full for after a meal?

What is your exercise routine like? Are you logging your food/exercise regularly?

Sorry to ask a million questions, but it may help us make better suggestions.

Hi Sara,

First off, congrats on the 30 lbs loss. I've been banded over three years now and am down about 70 lbs, so I understand slow loss. My suggestion is to try to continue to make good food choices and continue to see your fill Dr as often as He/She suggest. How much restriction do you have? Maybe it'll just take a small amount more to get you to that restriction level you're looking for. I think I'm at correct restriction, but I COULD definatley eat more than I should. Good Luck on your continued success!

well 30 pounds is great. so good job.

to my understanding, the band will help us eat less (by giving us a fullness feeling) but its still up to us to stop eating at the 20 min mark and or the allotted amount of food we are suppose to eat. ....you shouldnt be throwing up at all as that could be dangerous for the band..have you let your dr know about the throwing up part? i would suggest calling them and let them know whats going on and then let them advise you if you need a fill or not as its been 5 months per your post since your last fill (visit?)...we have to help the band by eating not soo much even if we can.

In the past year I have only lost 24 pounds.... I didn't realize it even until I had my anual check up, and now it is bugging the heck out of me. Turns out tho... I may have a thyroid thing going on???? Uff I hope not. Anyway. 30 pounds is amazing, You have to learn to stop when you are no longer hungry. Don't go for the stuffed feeling. Eat your one cup or quit at 20 minutes or which ever method you choose but quit when you are no longer hungry... not necessarily "full".

I rarely throw up anymore but if I over eat I will. So maybe you're too full and throwing up and not necessarily "stuck".

It can be really hard sometimes but just keep going. Best of luck to you!

I was banded 8 months ago and have also only lost 30 pounds. I have been stuck on the same weight forabout 3 months now. I don't gain, but I also don't lose. I need a fill for sure, but decided to take a break and slow things down. My hair was falling out really, really bad. It has slowed down a lot now and I have been taking Vitamins to help things along. Long story short, my weight loss was still slow (even before the stall). I have a low BMI and I think this is why it seems slower than other folks rates of loss.

On the subject of vomiting.... My doctor (and the books that I was given) say that vomiting can be a sign that you need an "unfill". I know that seems scary because you certainly don't want to gain anything back, but have you or your doctor considered taking a wee small bit of Fluid out?

Also.... Don't beat yourself up about a slow loss. Think of all the years where there was NO loss!! That is what I have been doing. Slow or not, I still weigh less than I have weighed in about 10 years! It will come if we just fiddle around with the adjustments and try really hard to keep the portions small. I know that lat part is easier said than done. Probably we ALL feel that is the really hard part.

Hang in there and keep in touch with your doctor's office......even if it is far away! My doctor is about 3000 km away, but the nurses are still helpful when you have questions.

:-)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
