Did anyone have their band done at Park Nicollet in Mpls? If so, how was the experience and have you had any problems?

Thank you!

they are supposed to be the best and the best follow up. I had the choice between Sioux Falls and Park Nicollet. My doctor was insistent that I go to park nicollet however I was well on my way with my 6 months supervised diet and appts thru Sioux Falls and when I checked with Park Nicollet...I would have had to start all over from the start again. I had all things completed but 2 months left of my supervised diet and didnt want to start the whole thing over....so for that reason only is why I kept with Avera in Sioux falls. Had I known that sooner...I think I would have probably chosen Park Nicollet. I have no regrets what so ever and love my dr in Sioux Falls and am happy with my dicision.

Im sure you wont be disappointed in Park Nicolett as I have heard nothing but good about them :) Best wishes to you

I was banded at Park Nicollet in May 2012. Great experience. Dr. Svendsen did my surgery and I would recommend him to anyone. He really cares about his patients, and makes you feel at ease. The surgery day experience and the 6 months leading up to it (medically supervised diet, nutritionist appts) went smoothly. The follow up care is great. You can call them any day and they get back to you in a timely manner. They have support group twice a month. I actually look forward to my monthly appointments because the PA and nurses are so supportive and friendly. Some of the nurses there have had WLS themselves so they can speak from personal experience when offering suggestions.

My only complaints: There is only one PA who does fills, so the fill appointments are usually at inconvenient times for working people (weekday, middle of the day). Also - the bariatrician I had to see for that first set of appointments (after I'd attended the info session) was VERY rude and discouraging. Fortunately you only see her once total. I don't want to post her name publicly but if you have any questions message me. Thank god i didn't listen to her... i am 140+ lbs down, loving life with the band! I

Overall the good far outweighs the bad!

Thanks for the replies, gals. My sister recently had Gastric Sleeve with Svendsen and I got to meet him and really want to make an appt to see if he'd band me as a self-pay. I was very impressed with how well my sister did and how great he was. My sis is further along the weight/co-morbidities road than me, so Sleeve was appropriate for her. Her primary care doctor has told her she'll probably be off HPB & HC meds within 6 weeks!! She's lost 20 lbs since her liquid diet and is not even 2 weeks out from surgery. I believe I would qualify for the band at my bmi and some other issues.

Thanks again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
