lapband book

Recommended Posts

I just ordered the book "LAp Band for LIfe" off Amazon. I am hoping to have surgery end of summer 06 and figure it will be helpful. Does anyone else have it or has anyone read it?

Sorry Cindyn, I haven't read any bandster book.

I do know that you will find a wealth of information about the band here on LBT that you will not find in any one book.

I bought Lap band for life a few weeks ago. I found it to be informative - in an infomercial sort of way. A good resource - but seemed like an advertisement.

I also ordered WLS for dummies and it outlines all the different types of surgery available - not a ton of specifics on the band.

In addition, I ordered The Real Skinny on Weight loss surgery which synopses says that it has the 'real' info on the band. I found that it had VERY LITTLE information on the band and focused on two by pass patients.

I ordered Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding : Achieving Permanent Weight Loss in hopes that it will be another good resource. I plan on reselling the WLS for dummies and the Real Skinny book.

If anyone knows of any other good books for bandsters - please speak up!!

Lapband for Life is an excellent book! I read it cover to cover before I had my surgery it was very helpful. It has a lot of helpful information for you AFTER surgery. If you have complications, questions about fills...etc. it gives you lots of helps & hints. My favorite part of the book are the Before & After pictures & stories all through the book.

I have a downloadable book LapBand The Complete Information Guide on my website. I have gotten a really great review today for someone who read it:

"Hi Wade, I just finished the book and I had to write to tell you what an awesome job you did. This book is so chocked full of valuable and informative information I can't stand it! Can't stand it in a good way :-) I can tell you really put a lot of time and effort into pulling this information together. The 100 reason...at the end was hilarious. And I had to say that I am guilty of several of you listed faux pas listed at the end.

I will be refer back to this book I'm sure as I continue in my journey. I have my first doctors appointment to discuss options and ask questions on May 4th and I can wait. Thanks for putting this great book together. I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats!! LOL...

Twana"

Anyways if it helps check it out: www.vtmag.com/lapband.aspx

Thanks,

Wade

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
