20 pounds down... and nervous

Recommended Posts

I love this forum for the amazing support that I get! It's amazing when someone else is going through exactly what you're going through and can help you through it.

I'm 12 days post op and have been weighing myself daily. Today, I step on the scale and I'm down 20 pounds since pre-op diet! That's major for me. To step on the scale and see 236!! Wow. But, why am I so scared that I won't keep it off? It's like I know I'm down 20, but it doesn't feel like it's a big deal because yeah, yeah, we've been here before. I start mushy foods in a few days and go back to work and from what I've read, weight loss slows during mushies. I'm ok with that, I just need to know for myself that those 20 pounds that went away are not coming back... ever!

And that's on me... and my band. It's a great feeling to know that I'm not in this alone. I have this amazing tool that will not let me eat the whole pizza, 12 tacos, an extra large order of fries. I have to get my confidence up and Celebrate every pound I lose from here on out.

I want to be happy and celebrate!!

If you continue to eat less calories than you burn you will lose more weight and never have a gain. :)

For me I found tracking my calories once I started on mushies helped me keep it in line. Best wishes!

Floridays, how many calories per day did you have when you were on mushies? My nutritionist didn't give me a number...

My nutrionist sample menu has 800 calories and 75 grams of Protein for the 2 week mushy phase.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
