Almost 4 months out, 41 lbs down and STUCK!

Recommended Posts

Just about 4 months out from surgery and am 40-43 lbs down, depending on the day I guess. Feeling extremely discouraged because I am stuck...some days I even gain weight. It is crazy because I don't eat extra or bad. I have tried eating more because the doctor thought I was not eating enough, I have increased my exercise, and nothing...I am feeling like a failure. Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do? I have 5.5cc in a 10cc band and I do feel restriction...I just do not understand what is going on. I love my band but I didn't have surgery to lose 40 lbs! Please help with ideas or past experiences. Thanks!

In my personal experience, it is ALWAYS been about Calories consumed versus Calories Burned....You need to burn off more calories per day than you eat.....500 more per day for 1 lb per week.....

If one chooses to eat more, then you need to exercise even more.......

Speaking only for myself....I was most successful when I ate less and exercised more....being absolutely sure I got my daily Protein ( for energy and metabolism), Vitamins, supplements and Water....

Weight stalls are normal. It happens to the best of us. Increase your Protein and wait it out it will eventually start coming off again.

You are doing great. I am 4 months out and 31lbs. It is frustrating at times when I read that others have lost way more, but I have not gained 1lb back (maintained over xmas - phew) and am not at restriction and am seeing other health benifits right now, slow and steady until the next fill.

just keep doing what you are doing and if you are still finding your clothes looser than they were, that is better than what the scale says as it goes up and down all day long....i happen to agree 10000% with B52.. if you take in more cals than you burn off, you will gain (or not lose).....you have done well so far....just keep going....getting frustrated and weighing all day long will only hinder you...you are better than that..you are a walking/talking success....hang in there

You didn't say how long you've been at this plateau? Plateaus are very common and can last 1-3 months but usually not till you're 6 months out. And this time of year is very difficult to lose weight. A cookie here, a fudge there can throw your weight loss plans way off track.

Are you tracking your calories including Snacks, drinks, and grazing foods? If so how many calories do you take in each day?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
