Recovery with little ones at home.....

Recommended Posts

Hello all....

Heading in on Thursday to have the procedure done. What is worrying me most, is coming home to two little boys (5yrs and 2yrs) and having to care for them like I do now while I'm trying to recover. Any tips or suggestions? The hubby is a shift worker and the boys are momma's boys - always want to be picked up and cuddled by their mum. Not sure they'll get the idea that mum has to take it easy and that I can't lift them for a bit.

Congrats on your upcoming date!! When I had my surgery I was the proud owner of an Autistic teenage son & a hubby a month out of the hospital from a massive heart attack & 3 heart surgeries (he was a thin, healthy, worker so to say this was a shock is an understatement). Anyway my point is you find a way! Your boys probably won't understand it totally but you can make a lot of cuddle time with them to replace the lifting. Make the bed a cozy fun zone in the days immediately following. Let them color, draw, watch TV with you in bed & they won't notice the lack of lifting/hauling. You will find so many ways to adore them without the picking up part I promise :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
