Where is your port?

Recommended Posts

I am 3 1/2 weeks out and have just got the courage to push around my belly and see if I can find my port. I feel a circular object which I guess is my port. It is not where I expected to find it though. It is on my right side about 1 to 2 inches below my bra line. My largest incision is in the same area and is the source of most of my discomfort (which isn't that bad). From reading the LapBand book my Doctor gave me the picture of the port was on the left side and was further down. I am just curious if we all have our ports in different locations? I will surely ask my Doctor at my next visit.

Hi! :)

I am not banded yet. But, when I had my consult with my doctor, he showed me where all my incisions and port are going to be. Basically, my port is going to be exactly where you said your's is, just about 1-2 inches below my right breast. In fact, I normally wear wire bras, and he suggested getting some sports bras while I recover because the wire will hurt where my port incision is going to be.

Hope this helps.

That's your port, all right! It seems like most people have it somewhere left of center, but I guess there's no reason not to place it on the right. Mine is about two inches below my ribs on the left.

Mine is in roughly the same spot. Now that I've dropped 72 pounds, it's much more pronounced.

Mine's in the same spot too. Just under my bra line on the right side. If I slump when I sit, I can feel it. So my band is doing two jobs for me - weight loss and posture correction! :)

Thanks for all the replies. I feel better knowing some of you have your port in the same area as me. PhotoNut, I think the reason I feel it more now is because of the way I sit at work. It will sure make me sit up straight because I hate the pressure that I feel when I'm not.

My port is on my right side, but only because I had a tattoo the doctor said he didn't want to cut into! lol That was nice of him. I can feel it there, now so I am wondering if it will really be "showing" when I lose more weight! lol Heck i don't care, no one but my husband will she that area!

You know, until I got my fill, I thought my port was between my boobs on the bra line/breast bone area. I'm such a schmuck.... its located on the right side (near the rib cage, sorta LOL). DUH DUH DUH !!!! doink!!!

About 2.5" below my bra and about 1/4" to 1/2" right of center.

My surgeon places them there due to accessibility -- being easier to find and get to in a less fatty area than lower midsection.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
