January 2013 Bandsters Unite

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Question to those who have graduated to mushies. How is it going, what types of food are you eating, are you pureeing everything? Any insight is appreciated. I'm 5 days banded so I'm curious about the next stage. :

Yay congrats! I am having pain. Are you on any pain meds? They have me on Vicodin and it just doesn't seem to be cuttin it. I had my gallbladder out in June and I was on Percocet then which worked great. I think I will ask if I can switch...

Yes they prescribed me Vicodin as well and it's working fine for me. You should definitely ask your dr to switch everyone reacts different to meds differently and plus you need to be comfortable. Are you having the gas pains?

Not really. I've been up moving around and walking so I think I'm pretty good so far with that. Just keep waking up in pain when all I want is to pass out for a few hours lol

Still dealing with gas especially at night. I'm tired because I can't sleep through the night. I see my doctor for my followup on Monday. Glad I did it but would like my energy back. Have to keep in mind this was major surgery and it will take a while to get back to where I was. Not sure I'm ready to return to work next week if the gas doesn't quit and let me sleep.

I don't go back to work until the 28th and I've been wondering how some people have been able to go back to work so quickly. I feel pretty good but I still tire out easily!

I'm going to talk to the doctor about that. I really am coming to the conclusion that I need to rest a while longer before I return to work. I stay up most of the day with a short nap in the afternoon which is good. And I am on my computer and doing a few other easy things during the day. Don't think I'm ready for work yet even though I'm at a computer all day.

For me the gas isn't painful just so uncomfortable but yeah been trying to walk but I sure do love being pampered which is really why I haven't gotten up. Lol.

Lol right? My husband is finally being sweet and making me Jello and getting me drinks! I don't want to act like I am independent or something ;-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
