Parents the start of over eating

It isn't always the parents. I have 2 sons 3 1/2 years apart and they weighed 200 pounds apart. Same house, same parents. The heavy one I took to a child's obesity doctor at Tufts medical in Boston. He is now 35 and losing weight on his own When people are ready they will do it not when the parent is.

It wasn't until I started this process that I even realized I'd try and make my kids eat "just a few more bites..."

I did a lot of reading and the basic principle is that no child ever starved themselves...if they are hungry they will eat.

I've also stopped even offering "dessert."

My kids get a treat occasionally at random times during the day...but I don't ever want them to associate eating meals with a sugary reward after!
