The 1st 6 weeks..

Recommended Posts

Hi gang!

So, I'm currently sitting 11 days post-op. As of today, I've lost 5 post-op pounds. At first, I was discouraged thinking, "wow! all this for nothing!". But the more I'm on this site, the more I'm finding out that this is completely normal. The first 6 week time period is supposed to be our healing time. Anyone else notice the same things? Anyone having struggles with Constipation (gasp!)? How are your first weeks going? I'd like to hear...

I was banded on 12/19, and i've only lost 6 pounds post-op. my husband was banded on the same day, and he has lost 14 pounds post-op. i remember reading these boards a few months before surgery and thinking that people who were worried about weight loss at this stage were crazy because they needed to be focused on healing. However, i have become one of those "crazy" people who has wondered why my weight loss is slow when i'm eating only Protein Shakes, cream of wheat, and Soup. I have to keep reminding myself that this is the time to heal, and i'm not even allowed to eat "normal" foods yet, so i can't really judge my weight loss progress.

Physically, i'm feeling about 90% recovered. The worst days for pain for me was dec 24 and 25, as gas pains in my shoulder came out of nowhere and hurt pretty badly. Now, i don't have too much pain with movement (gas or incisions) but i can't yet sleep on my stomach :(

with regards to "regularity," i've been using Miralax powder, and things have been moving fine.

Btw, has anyone been doing videos on youtube? My husband and i started doing them so we could track our progress (the channel is JennKopp). If any of you guys are posting on youtube, please tell us the name of your channel.

Banded on the 28th I've lost about 6 pounds. It's starting to slow down as I'm consuming food. With my body when I cut carbs, weight sheds. But I've already seen it slow down and I freak out. It feels good to lose it so fast!!

I'm still dealing with a lot of bloating and gas. I can sleep on my back, right side, and even my stomach for a little while but I can't sleep on my left side!! Weird!

My larger incision is a little sore still and I'm still kinda numb.

And oh god the Constipation. I'm eating my purees and soft foods now but very very little. I'm putting a large portion of benefiber in my Vitamin waters everyday and its slowly getting better.

I'm ready to get to working out and moving I'm so sick of waiting. I feel like I waited so Lon and worked so hard to get the surgery that I want to go! I have to pace myself and its hard to do that.

I'm so glad this group is getting some movement!! It's great to have the support!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
