I was banded 10/5 and I'm down almost 50. Get while the gettin is good! That's what I say to myself. Also, I'm prepared mentally for the halt/plateau that is bound to sneak up here!

larger people tend to lose more at the beginning from what i understand..but as long as a loss is a loss (i will take it). congrats on your success so far.

My primary care was against the weight loss surgery too. I was banded on dec 26 and I'm doing well except at night I'm having horrible leg pain that keeps me up. Any help would be appreciated. I've been taking lots of Calcium because I'm allergic to milk. I'd call my dietician but they're not in today. Thank you everyone for sharing your stories. Vicki

Hi Christy!

Congratulations on your weight loss! Very normal for you drop weight this rapid at your weight. I noticed many of us over 300/400 etc. tend to lose faster. Yes, you will hit plateaus its inevitable. Best part is, you are feeling great and eating good! Keep doing what you are doing. Listen to your body, what it wants and needs. You are already a success!

Keep up the good work, super super proud of you

((hugs))

when you have more to lose I think it comes off faster in the beginning. I lost 40 lbs the first 5 weeks.....then it kept coming off and overall it actually averaged ten pounds per month... But the last 50 lbs actually took 6/7 months.... So enjoy the early part of your journey!!!!

If I wasn't so old and out of shape I'd do kart wheels around my living room lol!! So how far into your journey are you?

I am not a doctor but mine has told me that dehydration and potassium can cause the leg cramps. Make sure you are getting enough fluids and potassium.

Coconut Water kills two birds with one stone, hydration and potassium! If you can get past the taste that it!

It all depends how you're losing it. If you're eating healthy foods and exercising, and you're not nutrient deficient or malnourished, then I wouldn't worry about losing too fast.

I've lost 175 pounds in less than a year, by the way. I know it's freaked out a lot of people and I hear how it's "too fast" all the time. However my family doctor, surgeon, and neurologist are all thrilled with my weight loss. I have considerable blood work done every 3-6 months so I know everything looks good from a medical standpoint, too.

If you're eating right and your surgeon says you're doing well, then just enjoy the loss. (it does slow down eventually, btw)

Best wishes.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
