asr2468 25 Posted December 30, 2012 Hi everyone! I am scheduled for surgery on the 28th of jan after my 6 month diet required by insurance. I was told I will be going to the hospital before my surgery so they can do preop testing. I know she said an EKG but I can't remember if she said anything else. I will take the results and get cleared from my primary doctor. My questions is what is the preop at the hospital going to entail? Is it just an EKG? Can anyone please explain this process as I am very nervous lol. Thanks
jewel2013 25 Posted December 30, 2012 I am also scheduled on the 28th! I have to have some pre op blood work done and an ECG. From what I have been told it is routine blood work and the ECG measures your heart activity.
asr2468 25 Posted December 30, 2012 That's all? I'm like worried that this is another hurdle which I could be denied for surgery after even though I have my surgery date
feb27bandwoman 112 Posted December 30, 2012 Pre op I had blood work, EKG and chest x-ray. I also was required to attend a pre-op class taught by a nurse practitioner. There were about 15 pre op patients in the class, some brought a support person with them. The nurse covered all the pre op preparation, types of surgery, what to expect the day of surgery, foods post op, anesthesia, pain control, ambulating after surgery, getting things ready at home. I have to say, it was very helpful. The same nurse practitioner saw each of us on our surgery day and then once or twice before we went home. She was a blessing!!!
