wozzicat 36 Posted December 30, 2012 Over the Christmas holidays I gained ten pounds. I need to get this weight off before I start my pre-op diet. I don't want to do the pre-op diet and end up where I started. This sucks.
FLORIDAYS 3,040 Posted December 30, 2012 Start eating like a bandster now... That will take some of that weight off. That plus your liquid...you should have a nice jump on your losing... 2 PattyGirl66 and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted December 30, 2012 It happens a lot during the holidays. I'm guessing it'll come off relatively quickly, especially if you're retaining Water from high sodium foods. Start logging your calories so you can regain control. Hang in there. 1 PattyGirl66 reacted to this
Bandswillmakeherdance 4 Posted December 30, 2012 Work on it now or you'll regret it later. I gained about the same prior to surgery and hate myself for it. The weight I'm losing during the liquid phase is only putting me at my baseline.

honk 780 Posted December 30, 2012 I don't think Protein Shakes are the way for you to go right now. Having to be on the Protein shakes for 2 weeks pre op and then 2 weeks post op is hard enough I don't recommend adding additional liquid diet time to that. After all the protein shakes are magic it's really more of an easy way to control calorie intake. What I recommend doing is buying a food scale and start weighing at least your protein. Weigh out 3 ounces of protein and then the rest of your food should be low fat low carb low cal vegetables. Perhaps a small serving of fruit. Did you have to meet with a psychologist specializing in eating disorders? I found those appointments to be really helpful to me. It help me recognize and knowledge what my issues are with food. Not only am I an emotional eater but I really like crunchy salty foods. I no longer keep even low fat crackers or chips or rice cakes in my house because I will eat them uncontrollably. Also remember the band isn't magic either and it won't stop you ever from eating certain foods. Don't get me wrong I ate crap over Christmas way too much crap. It's important however to have the mindset that Christmas is only 1 day and if there's unhealthy food around you don't need to eat it the next day. Also I went to the gym the day before Christmas and the day after. My gym is closed on Christmas. There are those who will disagree with me I think bandsters need to add a non negotiable exercise schedule to their life. I expect for myself that I will go to the gym everyday and most weeks I do go 7 days. There are times that you are going to be burning calories and it's not necessarily at the gym today I spent an hour and a half doing snow removal. So long story short yes I would significantly modify your normal eating habits at this point but I don't think liquids are the way to go and I would recommend adding an exercise program. I found at my heaviest that swimming what's best for me because I have a lot of joint and back problems. 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and Wendy0513 reacted to this

Some of my problem is I'm gluten intolerant. It really limits what I can eat. When I find something I binge on it. I can't exercise yet. I used to all the time. I have a knee injury and may need surgery :-(

Wendy0513 38 Posted December 30, 2012 Hang in there Wozzicat! By reaching out, you clearly are holding yourself accountable! Good for you!! Personally, I started drinking Protein shakes / Protein Soup ahead of my pre-op for two meals a day so it wouldn't be such a shock when I switched to all liquids. Honk raises a good point re: start eating like a Bandster... Certainly helpful as its something you have to 1) get used to (I'm guessing it's. different than the way you eat now) and 2) practice! This doesn't come with a magic cookbook! I wish you the best!
honk 780 Posted December 30, 2012 I would recommend speaking with your orthopedic doctor about Water exercise. I had a very bad knee problem when I weigh over 360 pounds and I could barely walk the grocery store to do my shopping. It was recommended to me that I try swimming since it wouldn't require weight bearing. I lost my first 80 pounds from swimming and diet. Now that I'm down to about 212 I can go walking and do other exercises in addition to Water based. It was an enormous non scale victory for me this summer when I was doing 7 1/2 to 8 mile walks daily. If your health insurance covers mental health appointments; I highly recommend meeting with a psychologist that specializes in eating disorders. My surgeon required 3 group sessions with such a specialist. I started out thinking that they would be a major waste of time. After all I knew I was fat and I knew that I ate to much. I ended up really addressing my emotional ties to food. Another thing we covered was understanding when you're hungry and when you're just bored. We discussed the range of hunger from peckish to ravenously hungry. Especially once you've reached restriction you don't want to get to the point where you're so hungry that you try to inhale your food. You will have stuck episodes if you do. Something else we discussed was planning in advance to have Snacks on you so you never get to that irrational Hunger point. This can be a low fat cheese stick, premade Protein shake or low cal low fat Protein Bar. It's not hard to have these items on hand many of them can be left in your car for an emergency. It's just remembering to do it. Before the band most of us would just have gone to McDonald's and bought some french fries.
