I have had a c-section and spinal surgery and neither one was as painful as the gas pain from the lapband surgery. I just had it on 12-28-12 and was in the ER that night. 4 delauded(however you spell it)injections and zofran for nausea...nothing helped. I am just starting to feel better

I thought the same thing! It does get better. It took me a week to feel better and a couple weeks to feel somewhat normal again. I kept thinking it better be worth it too! It had been. I am 45 lbs down and was banded in June.

This is nothing compared to childbirth and kidney stones......I am teary eyed just thinking "What have I done to myself???" It makes me feel better when I hear people say, IT WILL GET BETTER. Right now I can't see the forest for the trees. Just want to feel normal again.

It was painful, BUT... So worth it. The gas pain in shoulder and neck is the worst of it, hang in there! Walking, (helped, and trust me it sounded crazy to me too!! )but, walk, walk, walk. Heating pad helps too. If your on pain meds, get the laxatives ready and start taking them! You do not want impaction problems.

My lapband was a lot easier than my C section. With my lapband I was up and walking and going home about an hour after surgery. With my C section, I was in the hospital for two days, and it took me several hours to even be able to walk to the bathroom. It was more painful to sleep after my C section too. I didn't need hardly any pain meds after my lap band surgery, and I needed regular pain meds after the C section.

I've had 3 csections and a gallbladder removal. My first csection was worst of all. I got an infection. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days then when I got out my incision opened and I got and infection. They used nitrous sticks to chemically seal it up. Worst pain ever. That being said the next two csections were a breeze. I think being conscious is the big difference. When I woke up from lapband surgery I felt like I got hit by a Mack truck. It was so weird too because when I was awake I was completely mentally there but I could get my words out or control my body. I just kept moaning and calling my husbands. They told him that they had given me all the pain meds they could and anymore and I would be knocked out. Which At that point I would have preferred. The gas pain is ridiculous, by far some of the worst pain I have felt, but it is different for everyone. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. I should also add thAt I am a natural redhead and they always have to use at least 20% more anesthesia on me and pain meds then a normal person. Most of the pain from the lap band is the gas and the port pain which feels like someone is poking u with a hot poker. I felt better in about 5 days and I would do it all again even with the pain. I have lost 37 lbs and I continue to drop. Best decision I ever made was the lapband.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
