Feel bad about getting fills

Recommended Posts

I feel like what I have in my band should be enough and when I call to make an appt for a fill I feel guilty. I think still eating too much. I'm losing weight but very slowly. I eat more than a cup at a time so I really think I need a small fill. I don't know why I feel like a loser when I keep getting fills.

To me you are winning cause you are listening to your body and doing something about it. To be a loser would be not asking for that fill and overeating.

Why would you feel bad? You are listening to your band and you know whether you need a fill or not. I lost weight the whole time I was getting fills but I still got them because I was still hungry a lot. I reached the 'green zone' (aka sweet spot) when I was about 15 pounds from my goal. lol

Listen to your band and if you feel you need a fill get one & don't feel bad. You are doing great!

I guess I don't know why you feel badly... The band is a tool to help us feel satisfied with a small portion of food. Think of it like an electric drill. It's useless without electricity...right? Well our bands need saline injected so they can work. What is there to feel badly about?

Even at green zone the band will not stop you from eating too much. Its only job is to diminish hunger. I can most certainly eat a ton of food if I want too. I just dont!

I don't understand the feeling guilty for needing a fill. That's how the band works, the fills help get you to the greenzone. Once you get enough fills and are in the greenzone then it helps with staying fuller longer and for me personally stopped the snacking and nighttime snacking.

So no need for guilt feelings, fills are part if the process.

You should never, ever feel guilty about doing what you feel is best for you. If you feel you need a fill then talk to your doctor but don't even feel bad for it.

One thing to remember though: You said "I eat more than a cup at a time so I really think I need a small fill" Please keep in mind it's not the band's job to stop you from eating more than you should. In fact, it's not supposed to physically stop you from eating anything. The band is there to diminish hunger and keep you satiated on less food for longer periods of time, not stop you from over-eating. It will always be up to you to stop eating and stick to band sized portions. Here's a great link to better explain it: http://drsimpson.net...estriction.html

Best wishes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
