New, with a Question

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm new to posting, though I've been reading the boards for the past couple months as I went through the pre-surgury process. I'm finally on my way, and on my third day of my 14-day pre-op diet, with surgury scheduled for January 9. I'm really excited; though this process is going to be really hard, I know I do it.

Here's my question, for anyone who has gone through the surgury: is it like having a c-section? I've had three, and since they surguries are in the same general area I wonder if they're comprable. I asked my doctor, but, being a man and never having gone through one, all he could do was say, "Probably not."

I'm worried about the pain because I have to go back to work the Tuesday after my surgury, which is only six days out. I know I couldn't have gone back to work again that soon after the c-sections, so I was just wondering what anyone thought.

I know every body is different, so I'm just looking for other people's experiences. Plus, I might be freaking out a little bit right now. :)

Don't freak out! I was banded on 12:14 and I haven ad 3 c-sections also. There. Is no comparison. I did not feel pain in the 6 small incisions. Some port pain but it takes an extra week for it to subside! Don't worry you'll be fine. There is no bigger wuss than me! Good luck and God bless!

I would not compare the lapband to major abdominal surgery. Yes there is pain but its mostly gas pain. My incisions were numb so I was fine by the second week. Depending on your job unless you have a desk job I dont think 6 days is enough time to recover though.

I never took any pain meds after the lapband surgery. I haven't had a c section but my daughter did and from my experience her c was worse. I also just had a tt and while I am not in great pain I am way more uncomfortable than with the band.

No comparison. I had a c section and it was killer. This will be a walk in the park for you if you've done the c section thing. Just plan on resting for a few days post op and you should be fine. I was back to work about 5 days after. It's possible!

I had 2 c sections and had a hysterectomy. Lap band was nothing compared to those. The worst part is the gas and a little soreness. I hAd surgery on a Thursday and on Sat I was shopping and back to work on Monday. Just walk, walk, walk to get rid of the gas. A heating pad helped me too. Good luck!

I recovered very quickly from the surgery and don't remember taking the prescription pain meds even. I didn't get the gas pain that many do and only was uncomfortable getting up and down from a chair and in and out of bed. It was pretty minor for me. I have a desk job and went back to work after a week. I was a bit uncomfortable sitting on the 2nd week as my side was still swollen in the port area and it felt like the tubing was jabbing into my ribs. The surgeon told me it was normal from the internal inflammation. It wasn't really a pain and was more of an "uncomfortable" feeling. It really is different for everyone and their pain threshold. I happen to have a very high one so I had minimal discomfort.

Thank you all so much for your replies! I figured it wouldn't be as bad as the c-sections, but that was my only bench mark for anything like this. Honestly, I think I scared myself with my memories(3 in 4 years and my youngest just 3 years ago so it's still pretty fresh), but this helps so much!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
